Default Porsche/Audi style LED front corners '08

Hi Group:

I know there have been a few threads on illuminating the front corner reflectors, but here's what I've done on my '08. Tried to emulate the new Porsche/Audi style, with 21 white LEDs in clear corners:

I also made an amber set, but I prefer the whites.

Man, i usually hate all the reflector LED mods, but this is the first one i have ever seen that doesnt look rice, it actually looks very well done and professional.

I think the key is the LED's in close proximity to one another, not spaced apart like other corner LED reflectors have.

My hats off to you, good work!

Very nice looking! In for the DIY post. Are they on all the time when the lights are on (i.e. wired to the parking light), or did you wire a separate circuit and switch?

Thanks for the compliments. This is really a very simple job, with the only difficulties involving the separation of the lens from the reflector base. I used a small jeweler's screwdriver to repeatedly (like 40 times) score the glued seam between the two pieces. This worked better than a blade, because it made a groove wide enough to use a larger jeweler's screwdriver to pry the two pieces apart. I just had to be careful and gradually work my way all around the seam several times until the lens came off, prying a little bit more each time around. Then, I superglued the LED strip to the reflector base, facing forward. Here's my source:

http://www.oznium.com/led-flex-strips

I used the 9.5 inch white LED strip, and carefully trimmed off 3 LED's from the end, which made for a perfect fit inside the reflector. I also had to cut a notch in the lens, to pass the wire through after the two pieces were reglued together. I used superglue for the reflector and lens, and clear silicone sealer around the wiring. It's important to use enough superglue to completely seal the seam, as the lens has to be moisture-tight, but using too much superglue will cause the glue vapors inside the housing to cloud the lens. Also make sure the glue holding the LEDs to the reflector base has dried overnight before reassembling the reflector, for the same reason. Other than that, just pop them into the car, which is a little tougher on the right side, because of the windshield washer fluid bottle. Tap into the parking lights for power, as shown in the other threads.

I don't think this mod is suitable for the pre-'06 cars, as the reflectors aren't as deep and won't allow the LEDs to be facing forward. It's almost as if the later reflectors are designed for this mod. because they're larger, deeper, and have a triangle cross-section.

Finally, here's the LED I used in the parking lights inside the headlight housing:

I completely agree. Normally not my taste either, but it looks like you did a nice quality job.
