Hatch removal to make coupe/roadster??
Just curious if this has ever been done. If you removed the hatch, the sail windows, and the strut brace, you could graft in a roadster brace, add the roadster trunk lid, roof storage lid, etc. The finishing touch would be an almost vertical rear window.
The result would be similar to the Corvette coupes from the mid-to-late-'70s, without the fins between the pillars and the rear deck.
It just looks like something that would be relative easy to do, and it might even look pretty good. I've searched for pictures without finding anything.

Most "homemade" convertible jobs are done because the car in question isn't available in that form and the owner "just has to have one" no matter what the cost or what it looks like. Usually it looks like crap because they keep the original lines of the car which don't work well as a 'vert.
If you want a convertible Z, sell the coupe and buy one. It's gonna be cheaper and it won't look like a coupe-2-vert job.
It's funny that you should bring this up because I saw an ASC conversion of a 240SX last week and my first thought was - OMG, some redneck took a saws-all to a beautiful SX and created this piece of crap.

vertical rear window.. they have a company that makes a carbon fiber hatch like that, and it looks horrible. Just google "350z carbon fiber hatch" its on this forum too but I don't have time to search.
*not convertible but you'll at least see what it would look like

Not looking for a convertible. It would retain the coupe's hard top, but the lift-up hatch would go away.
Yeah. This is getting close, but was hoping to see less of a tunnel and a lower deck. I realize the brace between the shock towers would have to be replaced with something like what's in the roadster to get it lower.

Yeah, that's exactly the idea. Larger rear window and lower rear deck height that the CF hatch has.

Now I need to find somebody to photoshop the idea onto a regular old stock 350Z like this one.

Hmmm, that might be an easier approach.
I'm not really interested in modding my own car. I just thought it might be something that someone had already done. It doesn't appear that it would be all that difficult, and the results would definitely be eye-catching and functional.
I say functional because the visibility out the back would be better, and the center of gravity would be lower.

Are you looking for something like this?
