Default Poll: Is your CF VIS or Seibon Hood fading?

Im thinking about buying a VIS hood. Is the quality still as bad as what people said it was back in the threads in 2007 and earlier?

I live in Vancouver. Rains half the year, and the car doesnt sit in the sun for very long. So would it be effected heavily by the "fade monster" that ive read about?

If i shouldnt go with VIS is Seibon's quality better? Is there less fade with Seibon?

I just want to know how many people who have CF hoods actually have the fading problem.

Thanks.

Itll ALL oxidize/fade... Its just a matter of time. bring the hood to a good body shop and have them scuff it and reclear it. i work at a body shop and clear coat ALL my CF parts. why not? its not expensive and its lifetime safe!

The clear you see on the hood is a gel coat. not clear coat, itll protect it a good bit from UV rays but itll eventually beat the gel coat up

have had the hood for over a year with no problems. did need hood pins, but no oxidizing or fading. BUT my car is garaged at both work and home and school, so its not in direct sun a whole lot.

My front end, hood, fenders, bumper, sidesplitters, roof, hatch ( tunnel hatch) , rear carnards and diffuser are all carbon. but they have all been painted to some extent or recleared. I have left some of the carbon exposed on all of the parts and I have seibon, vis, asuka, and downforce parts in carbon. All of it is twill weave. Don't be cheap. If you're modifying your vehicle it is an UPGRADE. Don't allow it to make your vehicle to look worse. A decent clear coat would be well worth it if you leave them full carbon.

go with SEIBON, but remember the hoods are gel coated so your going to want to go to a body shop and have them apply a clear coat to prevent fading.

I have a SEIBON TS Hood on my G37, had it for 2 years, didn't clear coat it yet and still looking beautiful! Waiting for it to fade so i can maybe color match it and leave the vents cf or just reclear coat it...

CLEAR COAT your carbon parts if you want them to last.

It's pretty simple.

if it's faded, they will need to wet sand it back to normal, then re-clear coat it

Okay so the general consensus here seems to be: apply a coat of clearcoat. Now if im to do so, should i use just normal clearcoat? or should i use UV protection? Im a total noob when it comes to painting etc, so i dont even really know if there is a UV protection clearcoat. lol.

Also, theres this Hood from Carbon Creations.. the JGTC? Has anyone had any experience with this one? Not very much at all on the forums about it.

And any of you guys know how much getting it clear coated or UV clear coated will cost me? looking for rough estimates please.
