Default Headlight questions

So I want better light output from my 2005 base and I don't have the spare cash lying around to go to the 06+ headlights. My plan is to get a DDM HID 55W H7 (5000k) kit, but I want to black out parts of the inside of the headlight.

I've found lots of threads on how to black out an 06+ but few on earlier years. I'm sure I'm just searching incorrectly, but does anyone have pics on what parts I can and cannot paint for a pre 2006 headlight with HID conversion?

Also, I figure while I'm in there I should do angel eye and demon eye and remove the amber strip diffuser. Any good thread links on the LED replacement for under the diffuser strip in the headlight? I believe the led's should be 168, but most of my searching gets results for air diffusers .

taking the headlight apart is pretty much the same procedure with the 06-08s.
your essentially just stickin them in the oven at a specified temp and time and then take them apart slowly.
don't know how you missed this:

you can really paint any parts on pre 06 headlights. Painting some of the chrome will diminish the light output though but that's really personal preference.

adding angel eyes/demon eyes will prob be a bit more difficult...well lets just say different due to the projector setup compared to the 06's. I haven't really seen any 03-05 angel/demon eyes. It'll prob look weird honestly.

yep, they are too small.. id stay away from demon eyes.. but they make them and sell them on ebay.. spendy tho.

Just go out and look at the light and look at where it hits.. you will need to leave quite a bit chrome to keep any light output. Also if you paint it all, you wont have brights anymore.

You can black out most of it except the sides on either side of the projector lens. They are used for additional light output, probably about 20-30% of it would be lost of you paint it. Also you want to keep your high beams so leave that section alone.

Or if your really ballsy you can buy some projectors for about $100-150 and rip out the old ones and install new ones. This will make a pretty big difference in light output, even with my stock 35W HID. I did this myself and will admit it was a fair bit of time spent but I was happy with the results. I'd imagine going from halogens to this would be even better. These are BI-XENON projectors BTW... that means I get HID highbeams as well! So you could black out the rest of the headlamp as it wont be used, even your old highbeam area. Check out my project for more info:

Also the 50W HID is a good option... I've been considering doing this but haven't done it yet. Let us know if you do and PLEASE take comparrison pics.

Check out www.hidplanet.com and www.theretrofitsource.com for good info on HID and parts.
