03-05 headlight mod that I did (more light)
I'm thinking you're going to run afoul of the law. Headlights are DOT-approved, and modifications to increase their brightness are probably illegal.
That aside, I'd say you're not going to get much more light where you really need it. The light that hits that piece of metal is reflected back toward the reflector, and a significant portion of it ends up where it does some good.
What you'll end up with is a headlight that unnecessarily impairs an oncoming driver's vision. That's never a good thing.

^ That comparison won't work. You need to have 2 cars side by side and take pics of both at the same time for a proper comparison.
Umm... that wasn't a comparison. I was giving him an example of a good wall shot to see the cutoff.
We need two different types of pics though. One shot with the headlights aimed at a wall like my pic, so we can see the cutoff. And another shot of two cars side by side, but mainly focusing on the amount of light being output by each car.

^ Or, you can just have 1 picture that has 2 cars (OP's and another with stock headlights) pointing at the wall.
ok, so....I finally got one of my headlights changed out (bad bulb) and got some "wall shots" I think people are hoping for a nice defined line in the light pattern so this may disappoint a few. Please don't mind the difference in color between the two headlights as the one on the driver side is a new bulb.
I took some far away, in front of the car and about a car length or so from the wall. Considering the "blacking out" of the headlights, I'd say i'm pretty impressed with the light out put. Here you all go.
vvv This one is with flash....i had to take it off for the other pics

vvv lol, my girlfriend was FB'ing

idk what bulbs are in my headlights (bc im a da who dont pay attention) however mine are also 05 blacked out and i swear my car has better lighting than yours without the mod. Of course cant tell bc were not side by side
my camera sucks at night....it's just a little point and shoot so it really does it no justice. Your bulbs are probably D2R or D2S

I'm sorry but that looks terrible... you have no cutoff, which you are SUPPOSED to have. You are on HIGHBEAMS permanently now. Light is going above the horizon, i.e. above the level of the headlamps.
In your pictures, your holding the camera near chest level and there is excess glare to the camera, and I will bet to the eyes of oncoming drivers. This means light is going up...
I'm sorry mate I don't mean to be rude, I admire your willingness to experiment and we all appreciate modding and trying to make things better. But in this case i'm afraid you made it worse.
My advice to you, since your comfortable with this level of modding and cutting things, is to retrofit some proper bixenon projectors into your headlamps, removing the OEM projectors. The 03-05 headlamps perform poorly, and proper projectors will give you 2x more light on the road. Not only that bixenon has a cutoff shield that drops out of the way to give you your highbeams, which will look almost the same as what you have done to your current projectors, which are stuck on always on highbeams. If your interested, I have already done this and made a thread about it.
Anyway like I said, i'm not trying to bash you... but what you've done is not safe for other drivers. You need to correct it.

thought i'd get a quick vid while going to the movies. The camera was mounted on the lower left side of my bumper so they lights seem a little off center
. not the best quality but hey....but do watch it in 720 hd

Your a cocky little f*ck aren't you? You can't even defend yourself? Explain why you think "they're fine". Your pictures and video clearly shows light straying up and above the horizon, which is not good.
Your illuminating street name sights on the traffic light poles FFS! Your also illuminating street signs on the left side, meaning light is going up and left, which would be going into the eyes of oncoming drivers.
They are not fine, and don't be surprised if you get pulled over by the police. Although half the idiots driving out there leave their brights on anyway so maybe you'll be left alone. Regardless, they are not fine.
If you really want more light I would retrofit some good bixenon projectors into your headlamps and get a 50W HID kit. It will blow you away and will be 10x better than what you have now, AND you wouldn't be blinding oncoming traffic as long as you install it properly.

ricer mod that's ****ing up other drivers? that's a big no-no
just spend a few extra bucks and get proper projectors like gregom said, or get the 06+ headlights
nothing worse than showing up at a night car meet and all the other 350z owners wondering who's the douchebag that has headlights looking like a corolla, blinding every single person around him

I put this post up to get opinions and constructive criticism, not to be cussed at through reading a post.
I don't appreciate the little tantrum you're throwing there.....i realize your points and i'm honestly taking them into consideration, but only because I may be a little bias towards my small project. The only reason why i messed with this in the first place is because i had the headlights taken apart and I was experimenting, but for some "no body" (at least to me) to tell me to fix something "now"...i'm not going to entertain so I simply said they're fine.

Like I said before I admire your willingness to experiment, an effort to modify and improve upon something. However in my opinion, and you'll find in the opinion of many others, you made it worse and less safe. As such I offer suggestions to help you, and then you get defensive over a clear safety concern. I'm not trying to insult you, i'm trying to explain where the problem is and ways you can correct it. The fact you refuse to acknowledge or even try to defend your work shows your insecurity.
I hope you reconsider my feedback and use your talents to further modify your headlamps to make them perform better and be safe at the same time.
