I didn't really know how to describe this so here it goes...

I was going some spirited driving today in some curvy roads for a good 30-45 minutes (could have been longer - so easy to loose track of time when driving) and when I got back into town I rest my hand on the silver lining around the shift boot and noticed that it was considerably hot to the point where it was uncomfortable to leave my hand there. Is this normal or is something going wrong?

 

after "spirited" driving my whole center console gets hot as hell...along with the trim u describe....i've never had a problem

The shifter, **** and transmission tunnel get warm after any extended period of driving. Totally normal.

 

All the heat from the engine kind of gets funneled into that area before leaving the car. I know I've felt warmth in the throttle pedal area.

My gf tells me that sometimes.

 

its heat soak from your cats which runs very hot... reduced by running test pipes.
