Ok so I'm contemplating on doing the 06-08 conversion on my 04 z non hid model. Does anyone know what I will need to do if I wanted to convert the balast to work with my car? Also I want to know if I just buy the housing can I use an aftermarket hid setup instead of stock ballasts and bulbs?

its considerably more work when you didnt have HID in the first place, otherwise its plug and play.
As a guy who has a set of 2006 lights already fully apart in his kitchen right now..... theres two ways to answer your question about OEM vs aftermarket HID parts. One is yes, the other is no. becuase theres alot of issues youl have w out going OEM.
HID aftermarket possible? Sure.. but youd have to modify some things. All the internals would likely be stripped off the back of the headlights if you bought the bare bones versions. Most aftermarket HID harnesses will fit under that bulb cap.. which you may or may not get.... and the new ballast itself will ahve to go inside the area left by the other missing ballast.. which presents you another problem.. while these lights are vented to the outside by a little rubber valve, they are predominantly sealed. That ballast ( OEM) is a bottom seal as well as a ballast. Its got a rubber seal all along it. W out it, youre open on the underside. Bad news.
I bought my headlights used at 269 each, and it took forever to find them, but your BEST bet with the LEAST headhache and modding and possibility for issues is to buy them complete.

Here is a link to instructions to put the HID headlights in the base models. I can't put in the link correctly, so just replace the XXX with *********.

ah yes, the magic of google.
ANyways OP, thats it mang.. basic wiring that can be done in an hour. Just make sure you do it right, ie solder the wiring and use heat shrink etc. Dont use crimp connectors and crap like that.. or you will have issues within 24 months.
