Default Need LED turn signal advice from those w experience..

Hey folks..

Ok so this isnt going to be a thread about how i built my headlights. i am saving that for when they are done and am taking a crap load of pictures.

I need to know a bit about the charateristics of LED turn signals, and your experiences with them.

Heres why:

I have masked and vinyl wrapped over the diffuser plastic that sits inside the headlight, over the turn signal bowl. (Its the same color wrap as the car. )
The bowl is painted black and is using the stock incandescent bulb for now.
Thers some designs i have left clear for the light to come out of.. I will eave it at that for now.. i yanked my pics as i realized like an idiot.. iwas trying to keep them a secret.. and here i am putting pics on the web.. sheesh.

So heres my issue.. the stock amber bulb is a bit weak. The light spread isnt that great as the bowl is still black, but to be honest, id like to keep it that way,. Keep in mind theres light comming thru gaps in these pics as its not re-installed yet.. just placeed lightly over the area to get an idea of light output.

Id almost like to frost the insde of the plastic w a quick shot from the sandblaster to really even out the light, but then it would be visible as a white-ish stripe all the time.. and i dont want that.. the cars busy enough already.

What i want best case sceario is a bulb that spreads light evenly across the bowl ( incandescent is better for that) but is so bright that it fills that thing w light and evens out the pattern.. as well as gives me enough visibility for safety etc. BTW, no remarks about safety please.. they show to the front and to the top and sides still, and they are still quite a bit brighter than the pic shows.. this was using a half dead 9 volt test battery haha.

so does anyone have any pcs of their led turn signals or high wattage incandescent amber bulbs? Maybe some on black painted housing bowls? Thanks guys.. i need to wrap this up fast before they have to put my car back together and im still dickin around w my headlights.

( spolier alert!.. teaser shot, break out yer chopstix, its gna get ricey

btw, the red led is ONLY for when the dome light is on and ign is off.
( ie, unlocking car w remote as youre walking up to it in the parking lot at night. )

Could you do LED strips inside that housing in a cross pattern behind the openings you've left? I would imagine that would work better. I've run LED turn signals before and the issue I had was that the bulb was one cluster of LEDs replacing the stock bulb and in direct sunlight it was not visible at all, both with the reflector blacked out and with it stock chrome.

I tested it out w some white strips and it's just dots that you see if you happen to see one thru the clear gaps ... it appears leds just dont put the light out that I need. Maybe ill start looking into higher wattage amber incandescents . Boo...I really wanted that snappy on off that the leds give..

Sandblast then spray the inside with clear mixed with black? Almost like tinting but lighter. It would subdue the white of the plastic being blasted.

Hey man! I like what your doing with your lights... I'm thinking of doing them but I'm a little nervous because I don't want to mess up when I bake them. I have been doing a little research on some mods that I can do and check out this link for the demon eyes cause a guy used a cheap led from radioshack which looks pretty sick.

http://www.mp3car.com/fabrication/13...-lighting.html

The radioshack LED he uses has no lens on it and is meant to spread the light better... So I was thinking if you get a couple of those, then you could make it into a turn signal. But I don't know too much about modding headlights lol still doing research...

But let me know how the lights turn out! I'm only trying to find out how to do the iron man mod now -___-

Check out the following form:
http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/foru...y.php?13-LED-s

All the information you would need to create a custom LED signal is there.

I did the black out on 06 lights with the CCFL mod also. I ended out building a custom LED turn signal with 20 something 150ma amber SnapLED's (what is often used in factory LED applications). I used a bezel that I pulled from a LED flash light that I found at home depot.

I would shoot some pictures but I got in a wreck and smashed the lights. If your just looking for an easy fix I would recommend:
http://www.elef-usa.com/apps/webstor...s/show/1200203

Though I don't know if they will fit behind that stock diffuser/lens, which shouldn't be needed anyway so long as you get the one with the diffuser I linked.

I have used the stock bulb in a blacked-out turn signal reflector with the "crappy plastic box" it doesn't make much of a difference.

I have heard good things about the elef's just make sure you get the one with the diffused lens for your application.
