Default LED Sidemarkers 2.0! WAY IMPROVED

They are finished!

Many said they disliked the "points of light" appearance that the old ones had. I agreed; but the 15LED strips still had points.

Sadly the reason these took so long is because the LEDs they use are so backordered it isnt even funny. therefore all I could get were white; and all I had to toy with were stock amber reflectors. so thats what they are; white LEDs with stock amber reflector. they would be brighter if the the reflector was white or if the LED was amber. but anyway...

the comparison old design is a white reflector with a amber LED.

the edge goes to the old design with the clear(non tinted) reflector. but the new design more than overcomes that.

heres the pics.

the following shots were taken at iso1200, not an accurate representation of eithers output; but it does do a great job of showing actual range of light rather than camera flare.
New

Old

a dark room with the 2.0 lit.

and as macgyver suggested to someone; here is a shot with the flash to see.

the numbers are even; 3LEDs in both designs. you can stare into the new design without being "blinded", it retains the nice 3 dot theme appearance; without being points.

for turn signal options Id reccomend 2 or 4 LEDs spaced between main 3.

I am still offering the old design however; it is still cheaper for those on a budget.

have you thought about placing white leds at the edges to try to illuminate the entire reflector? and shine the light inwards.. to give the edges a whitish glow?

something like my free pen i got at job fairs?

no room there. I could put these LEDs on the ends to help illuminate it; but theyd lose half of their light shooting into the side. and it wont fit facing sideways. its a tight fit in there. most that could be done to get it all would be an additional 2 at the ends; which can be done if someone wanted.

what about making completely new reflectors using like epoxy resin... and setting the leds in them.. sand blast one side to give it a glazed look. i'm pretty sure you can get like internal refraction with LEDs to lite the entire thing up-
eh. ideas :P

very good ideas indeed. so good I have already made the design from clay . however as casting goes; its a rather complicated design on the back with no flat sides without undercuts. leaving my newbie casting *** in the dark.

Ive also always prided myself on keeping the stock reflector portion so it remains a reflector; there are other companies that change out the lens portion, to refract the light better. This design is sort of the other way to accomplish that; without modifying the reflector.

ares,

Speak with Rick Hesel on the S board...a company he works with makes a great replacement reflector. We were all amazed at how accurately they could recreate the diamond pattern on the reflector backs (even the company was amazed). Modify a mold and have them do it...

I've gone through quite the saga with finding a quality led that matches the stock parking/signal lights.

I had purchased strictlyZ's amber led's... they were redish in color when lit and within a month both had burnt out. There was no option for both parking light and signal capablitiy.

Talked with clearcorners.com. Knowledgeable, seems like the quality is good, and double functionality. Cons are the very high price, you loose the stock 3 dot design, and I still don't know for sure if they match.

I was curious if you compared your led's to the above two and how they compare??

Importance for me is matching color when lit and for them to last so I don't have to take this bumper off ever again! : )

Currently I have my stock amber reflectors, a set of clear reflectors, and the burnt out led's currently installed on the car. I have room to let you experiment with a pair to say the least.

Your feedback is appreciated.

Mike

I do not have a set of either to compare to. my budget doesnt permit it I barely charge enough to make this a profitable business. as one person who will remain nameless put it "you must not be a business major".

but anyway. I know of the problems you mentioned; and I know why they burned out. but I would prefer not to go into that.

there were lots of options; as of late strictlyZ no longer sells them to my knowledge. so it looks like I certainly wont be able to compare with them.

LEDs are for the most part very generic. as far as Ive ever seen there are 2 LEDs; regular and luxeon. I cant say for sure which others were using without guessing.

as for color matching; Ive never compared actually; I can say the luxeon LED turn signal is a bit darker; but I mean marginally. Ill attach a photo of it.

as for life; to my knowledge only 1 reflector of one set of the 30 or so sets Ive made has ever had a problem; it was also the second set I made. it was not a dead LED; it was a bad connection. he is working on having it removed and then Im going to repair whatever went wrong; most likely a solder joint that didnt form properly.

hope that helps answer some of your questions; I stand behind my work and if something I did fails; I would hope to repair it.

heres the photo; as always the camera exaggerates the color difference. but its the best I can show you.
