Default What are your thoughts on side(seat) airbags?

I was wondering if anyone here has been in an accident where the side airbag went off and if you think it helped a lot or not. Or maybe you were in an accident and you think the side airbag would've helped?

My stock cloth seats are damaged and I found a pair for nice leather heated seats nearby for a great price. But they don't have side airbags and I don't know if I want to lose those. I can install them and trick the system with a 2.2 ohm resistor no problem.

So any thoughts/experiences with these?

And on a side note, why did Nissan install side airbags in a cloth base seat but didn't install them in a nicer model with power and heated seats? My car is an 06 and the leather seats are from an 06 but no airbags?

they installed them on leather seats if you paid for them. They are simply not standard.

Sounds like you know all the tricks for airbags.. but i guess u didnt know that tricking the airbag warning light still leaves all the other airbags non operational.

I believe they are standard on OEM heated leather seats.

Well this is an 06 and it doesn't have it.

And to the guy who said airbags won't work, how do you know, I've done it on another car and they went off in an accident. How is our system different?

Maybe the owner replaced them with a model year that didn't come with the airbags.

Many parts of the Z spanning the 2003-2008 (2009 roadster only) model years are interchangeable.

E.G. I have 06+ headlights on my 2003, but obviously they weren't available back in 2003. 06+ could also have 2003 headlights put in, but some wire swapping is involved.
