How strong is 3M Super Strong Automotive Attachment Tape??
I just got a Shine copy of the C20 spoiler for my ZR, and was told that it is held on with just tape. Is the 3m DS tape really THAT strong??? I hope it is because I really don't care for the idea of drilling in my trunk lid, but I also don't want to lose a spoiler the first time I hit higher speeds! Is the tape strong enough on it's own or should I bite the bullet and put some screws in it too??? Any opinions/advice is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Yeah I do not think that is going anywhere........
I have had the stock OEM spoiler held on with just 10 pieces of one inch 3m tape at various places to check the fit...
Sadly once I checked the fit I could not get the damn thing off!!
That was in 2005. SO like I said I think you are safe.

If applied correctly, using 3-M tape to attah your spoiler...it ain't going nowhere!
I just removed my OEM spoiler and installed a Blitz.Only used 3-M.
If you bought the spoiler from Shine(and other body parts companies)it did not
come with any tape. You will have to buy some.1/2" tape is the perfect size for mounting your spoiler. You can get 3-M tape from many sources. However,if you want professional results,I'd go to a auto paint/body supply store and get 3-M product geatred for auto use.The 3-M acrylicPLUS attachment tape(PART#06382) is what I use. Also,I recommend getting some adhesive promoter. This productis like a "fresh wipe" that you use prior to attachment.
Just remember, prep of the surface is most important.Clean several times with rubbing alcohol.Since this is summer, the heat of the season is your friend. Its a good idea to get the tape "gummy"before attaching.Peel of the red backing.Let it sit in the sun for a few minutes. In colder weather, its good to warm up the tape with a hair dryer.
As mentioned in another post, this stuff is not movable after you attach!
Do a test fitting.Center the spoiler.Mark the mountimg points om some masking or painters tape on the deck&spoiler. It may be a good idea to have a buddy help
position the spoiler when attaching.Press that sucker down.Give it some pressure for
4-5 min...your done!
That supply shop should also have these.

The 3m tape is really great stuff. I've had my spoiler attached with only that tape for the last 5 years. Its hung on there even going 130 on the track with no problems so you'll be fine. Just like the other guys said though, make sure you prep it well. I used rubbing alcohol before I put it on.

It will not mess up your paint, just make sure to prep the trunk before applying, I work in a body shop and constantly use 3m tape, I can't stress enough to make sure the area is cleaned well.

i apologize for reviving an old topic, but I've had the EVO-R blitz replica spoiler on for about 4.5 yrs using the 3m tape that was attached to the spoiler. Held on fine, but now I want to take off the spoiler and go for an OEM look, while also making the hatch struts usable again (trunk bopped my head a few times). Will I rip off my paint/clear coat if I try to remove the spoiler, or is it safe enough to do so? If it helps, I washed the surface with CAR SOAP, not dishwashing liquid/alcohol/etc before I installed the spoiler in case I ever want to remove the spoiler. Thanks

you should be able to remove fine, you can help the removal process by heating up the edges of the spoiler with a heat gun (dont get that close that you damage the blitz spoiler) and lift up. the hatch paint, if its OEM should be ok.
you can also use some floss doubled up and get underneath the edge and 'saw' the tape along with the heat gun and gentle prying up...
