Default LED Turn Signals! (with pictures)

well the new design is in. it lights up on straight 12volt current. still needs to be tested in the car. and a bit of long term testing is needed.

whats even cooler. this design is more or less identical to what would be done for the brake light. meaning that is "finished" as well.

specs:
4 batwing amber LEDs arranged around the outside. running at 225mA.

1 batwing star amber LED pointing foward, running at 200mA.

heat, it topped out at 180degrees. after about 2 minutes of being on. these are not intended to be a constant on device which is why Im not too concerned with this. but it is the reason I have to test it in the car for a while to be sure.

ok now for the pics.

price, probably around 125-150$. Im working on a better way to assemble them; but as it stands its 2-3hours of work to make a pair. if I can get it down, maybe 100$.

Why wouldn't they be constant on? Is it different on the Z than the G? On the G, the turn signal is lit whenever the parking lights are on, at 75%. They go to 100% when blinking.

you sure?

but no definitly not on the Z. the Z is off unless turn signal. the parking light is seperate in the amber strip to the side.

had another one of those "setbacks". not enough clearance behind the bulb to get it in. Ill fix that somehow.

more I think about it; Im gonna cut the power back anyway. the high output is nice; but hard to say what effect it will have on its life. the resistors will prefer it too.

ahahaa.. wicked!

Okay... I'm starting to see something with my old setup. The hot glue is definitely not good for Luxeon. It melts!

Good thing I decided to move on to epoxy. (i hope)

My new design (drawn in MSPaint... ahah) is different, but I'll try to make them someday using better material.

no white; they could be, just a matter of which LEDs used.

for brake lights Ill swap that center LED in favor of a 3 or 5watt. mmmm mmmm good.

Why not design a turn signal bulb requiring less LEDS or with a less complicated design to lower the anticipated prices?

I can do that, but less LEDs means less light
Ive made them with 1 or 2 LEDs. but they are lacking in output.
