Just put your surf board in the trunk.

I used a soft rack on my Vette back in the day, but the tension from the straps scratched up my roof a bit. After that I just put the board directly in the car. If your board can fit in the Z then just do that.

I thought about trying to just put the seat forward window down and if it didn't fit we'll have it out the window a little bit , but then realized I don't live 5 mins from the beach anymore where I'm stationed at is 2- 2 1/2 hour drive. So I prob wouldn't be driving by myself. I was thinking about the dakine long pads

how long is your board?, the soft pads is a good deal, but yes they do scratch the top. Honestly it's either stick it inside n leave the hatch open, get a really short board or get a truck. hahaha! There is just no way around it.

Remove the headrest and recline the passenger seat, then slide the board upside down, tail in first from the hatch. Works for my 6' 3".

a 6'3" fits in there fine, just push it all the way forward from inside the hatch over the rear strut then under, place a towel on the plastics to not ding your board, and then
secure it with the headrests

That's unheard of ETK lol I've surfed up and down the east coast, Hawaii and San Diego , and my fav place was deff San Diego . Back home in Long Island I'm 5 mins from the beach so trying to fit the board in the car would def need to be figured out but the more I'm thinking about it here in NC I'm doubting I'm gonna drive 2 2 1/2 hours to the beach by myself to surf for 2 to 3 hours And drive back, but if I could strap it to the top and have a passenger that would be more likely to happen.. So was the pads scratching the roofs or was it the straps?

I had a 6'3 for a really long time then got older gained like 20 lbs and upgraded to a 6'5 wider and thicker board to give me a little more paddle. Still have my 6'3 but waves are to mushy on the east coast for them

The actual straps scratched my roof on the edge when tightened. You could possibly avoid this by placing a microfiber towel under the straps. I was also driving at highway speeds for 5 + hours to NC though. They scratched my clearcoat.

Open the hatch and put it through while reclining the front passenger seat all the way back. I was able to fit my 7'3" in there so you fitting a 6'5" should be no problem

I have since come to my senses and got back on a bodyboard and that fits in the trunk no problem

Yep, it's an old school single fin so I put it in a board sock and it easily fit inside with the seat all the way reclined and the hatch closed. The key is to make sure you push it all the way through to floor of the front seat. My 6'6" fits even easier!

I'm an OK surfer and an a pro-level bodyboarder so I go with what I'm good at

So you keep the seat pushed forward then have the seat reclined all the way back and you put it over the rear sway bar facing it down into the seat and floor?

Yea I'm ok surfer too it's been a love of mine for About 8-9 years now but being from Long Island we don't get quality waves for me to get better. If I lived in San Diego I would def be a lot better lol

I fully recline the seat but don't remove the headrest and move it all the way back too, you then just open the hatch and put the board in through that way.

As long as you don't have some superwide fish you should be able to fit it in perfectly
