Default Cup Holder Mod / Improvement?

I absolutely HATE the useless cup holder in my '04 Z. Not only is it in a stupid location, but it can't even hold a half full can of soda while taking a left turn at a mild speed.

Crap, useless dude, honestly...

Has anyone given up on it and figured out a way to hold a 44oz Thirst Buster without flooding your car? I'd like to have a nice cold drink in my car this summer :-/

There's a couple options...

You could:

1: use the other cup holders in the rear of the center console. They are plenty big.

2: buy a plug and chug cup holder.

3: buy a set of 06+ door panels, they have cup holders built in.

4: don't drink in your car.

Beyond that, you are pretty well porked short of something custom.

The previous owner must have ripped it out. All it is is a cubby hole now. I didn't even know what he was talking about when he posted that, until I googled it. Lol! Maybe I'll just order the part and reinstall it... So, the back one works well enough to put back in?

Those are useless as well unless you are drinking one of those mini water bottles.

There are single din cup holder options out there. This thread has a lot of them listed:

Also, here's a slidegoods listing for the console cubbyhole cup holder:

Edit: the back one works great. Holds a large Wendy's cup easily.

The dash cup holder worked great for 5 years of holding my 4 cup coffee mug every morning. Holds Monster cans fine, beer, starbucks cups even soda cans. The only prob was the smaller RedBull cans.

You are absolutely right about Red Bull cans. That is my favorite drink. I was considering fabricating something for Red Bull cans.

What about margaritas and shot glasses? I can never find a place for those when I'm driving.

Slidegood is a ripoff sometimes. You can get a brand new one from courtesy for 30.

A couple of decades ago, at the peak of the mini-van craze, cup holders were a big selling point of new cars. Some of you older gents might remember some mini-vans were available with at least 10 of them.

There was one commercial for a particular sports car that ended with the phrase: Cup holders . . . . ? That's what friends are for!

I challenge you guys to find out for what car they were advertising. You might be surprised!
