Default 03 HID to 06+ Bi-Xenon

Yes, I'm starting another thread because after 6 pages of not finding answers and still getting the same response it's time to clear this entire mess up.

First, I have housings (HOUSINGS ONLY) off of a 2007.

Second, I have OEM HIDs on my 03.

Before any of you people say "it's plug and play," you need to go to the beginning of this post and read it again. I ONLY HAVE 07 HOUSINGS.

There are 3 parts of the wiring I will reference in this:

1: The ballast

2: The igniter

3: The harness (which includes all of the sockets necessary to plug up turn signals, DRLs, and high beams)

My questions are as follows:

Can I use my HARNESS (reference item 3 above) from my 03 on these 06 housings? i.e. will the actual plastic locking mechanisms on the bulbs screw into the new housing?

Also, can I splice from my 03's OEM H7 halogen high beam into the newer 06 high beam solenoid?

I have ordered D2S bulbs. I know I can swap over my ballasts and igniters. This is about the HARNESS. Can the HARNESS from the 03 be transplanted over to the 06 housing??

As I get this swap done I'm going to make a comprehensive DIY for this because nobody seems to have the answers for this anywhere on this forum.

http://www.courtesyparts.com/26038n-...8-p-14063.html This might be it, not 100% sure but I would call to find out. If it is it only took me 27 seconds to find.

I believe people have told you the correct answer several times. You simply choose to ignore their responses. If you have HID lights in your '03, the switch over is simply plug and play.

Most of those responses have been aimed at the ballast/igniter swap for guys that have 06 headlights with the new harnesses already installed on the back.

I checked courtesy parts and they only sell it as a complete unit harness + housing.

I just haven't been able to find someone that's taken the entire wiring harness off the back of an 03 HID light and swapped it only a blank 06 headlight. If it is truly a direct swap for every bulb then I should be ok.

Actually, that might possibly be it...I do need to call them though.

Edit: If you look at the diagrams, you can order the headlight harness assembly for the earlier 03-05 models. Scroll down to the diagram for the 06+ model and they group the harness assembly as a whole into one part number that includes the entire housing.

In all seriousness (I'm really trying here....).

Have you TRIED to see if it will work yet? If you already have the housings, have you TRIED to see if it will work without splicing? The reason I ask is simply due to individuals stating it's "Plug and Play" have....well, Plugged and Played.

I haven't had the opportunity to take the front end of the car down yet, so no. I know if the 03 harness did in fact fit the new housing that splicing will be required on a couple of connections to make it have full functionality. The wall I'm hitting is if whether or not the physical connections on the bulb sockets will fit into the new housings and twist to lock and seal.

I'm on the hunt for 06 harnesses...if I don't have any luck I'll attempt a tear down on a Saturday I'm free and see if the 03 harness would work

any update on this? I'm in the midst of doing a Canadian 03 350Z w/ HID to 06+ headlight....my biggest concern now is the DRL

The DRL in Canadian Z's are the high beams @ 6v. If i splice the high beam from 03 to the 06 high beam actuator, would they still function properly?

Lol some people can't read. Its obviously NOT going to be plug and play. Don't listen to anyone telling you otherwise. Where would the 03 halogen high-beam socket go? The different turn signal socket? Exactly.

There's a couple things you'll have to be splice but it'll be much easier than sourcing a harness.

First here's what's the same:
8 pin headlight to car connector
Ballast/ignitor
Ballast ignitor to harness connector
Lower parking light bulb / socket

Now here's what's different:
high beam
Turn signal
Amber side marker

For the high beam you can cut off the halogen socket from your harness. Those wires will now be used to power the solenoid that turns the high beam "on" in the 07.

For the turn signal you'll need to source a pair of sockets for the new bulb size (they are close in size but NOT the same. People have had issues using the old sockets in the updated housings) you can try to make them fit if you want.

For the amber side marker you'll cut off the old socket and wire that up to the led side marker on the new housing.

That pretty much covers all the mods you'll need to do. Be sure to check wiring diagrams for your wire colors and polarity.

yea, i don't think the 03 harness will fit in the 06 light...however, if you have the 06 light c/w harness, it will plug and play into your 8-pin connector on your vehicle...i've confirmed this with another member on this board who also successfully swapped headlights (and also canadian with DRL)

Finally a comprehensive response. Does anyone have or is able to visually demonstrate this swap. I also have a 03 350Z that I'm seeking to find the best options to swap out my current old, worn, and oxidated headlights. My Z also has the stock HID setup.

Thanks

Just buy a set of depo lights?

The OP's situation is pretty unique. Depo lights and most used oem lights will come with the wiring harness.
