I recently bought a 2006 350z and the previous owner said the first owner(a older gentleman) installed a chip on the car, theres a remote in my car on the passenger side but I'm not sure what it does if i turn it off and what does the chip do? any input would help greatly

 

i would follow the wire and see where it goes.......

 

tried and it disappears into the carpet abyss

 

weird.. when you drive the car and turn that switch off and on.... notice any diff?

 

Well, have you tried turning it off and seeing what happens?
Perhaps a poorly hidden fuel kill switch?

 

i havent but it also says map a/b on the side of the remote

if is has that on it, then theoritically you wont mess anything up. i know when i had mine tuned, they put 5 maps on my car that i can change via the cruise control buttons on the steering wheel

 

but what does it change? im dumb in this area so when it says map a/b what do u think it does if i turn it off? what do the maps do

 

bank 1 - 93 octane gas
bank 2 - 91 octane gas
bank 3 - cruising, wont go over 80 mph
bank 4 - valet, wont go over 20 mph
bank 5 - engine kill.... wont start no matter what

 

imma try turning it off tomorrow and see what it does

 

i say do a better job of following the wires......carpet..pfff..

Remove seat, lift the carpet and see just where it leads to.

 

This can only be answered by you. Follow the wire and figure it out.

I would just stArt by firing up the car and flipping the switch. See what happens

 

I would be willing to bet it is one of those stupid aftermarket alarm systems that dealers install to try to get you to buy as an add-on

Yeah but it wouldnt say map a/b and i work at nissan and they said that it wasnt a dealer add on, its for te chip installed in the car

 

valet mode switch? not gonna be able to really tell until you trace it.

 

i am not sure it would be a chip and why would an "older gentleman" do that, i havent looked into it but do they even make a plkug and play chip forr the z? just drive it and flip it...... do it, give into peer pressure
