Default Rock Auto Headlights?

Hey everybody!

Just picked up a used 04 Z Base. Have a few questions about the headlights. I am sure this has been answered elsewhere but couldn't find it when I searched. The person before me put some crappy aftermarket headlights in that look decent but do not perform well, also will not pass inspection. I was looking to replace them and was wondering what the best route would be. I'm not looking for anything flashy likely going back to the stock look (even though i do like the smoked lens look, but i believe that is the reason i can not get an inspection sticker).
Does anybody have a brand they would suggest that they like? I am interested in the smoked out look but only if it is legal, if not i was wondering what you would suggest for a stock replacement besides oem. Has anybody tried rock auto? Also I believe my Z stock lights were halogen - can i buy the xenon lights from a vendor like rock auto or would that require changing the wire harness?? It appears rock auto xenon lights are only $125 - that doesn't seem right to me when the composits are only $10 cheaper.

Thanks for any help and advice you can give!!
Travis

You should visit the "Lighting" classifieds and buy a solid set of used OEM headlights.

I would go back to an OEM set. Look in the classified here, look at Slidegood or scout ebay. If it was me I would only go with OEM nissan, not an OEM replacement. I've never bought anything from Rock Auto, but I had a co-worker that bought many used parts for his 80s Ford F150 and spoke highly of them.

don't quote me, but I think the track and touring models had the HIDs while the performance, enthusiast, base had halogens…

I too would go back to OEM. 1)They're built for the car. 2)They'll pass inspection. 3)They're a lot brighter than the stuff you get on Ebay which verge on being 'fashion' headlights. 4) It'll give you peace of mind and the ability to see at night time.

Did the HID's you bought from rock auto come with the bulbs or just the lens? Do you know if I would be able to put HID's in my Z if the stock was halogen? Or would i need to buy a harness/kit?

HID will not simply work with originally halogen bulb headlights, you must buy the proper harness/conversion kit to upgrade to HID.

There was NO hid equipment in the new rock lights at all. My Z has HID so I simply moved the HID to the new lights.

Hoverer, an aftermarket HID kit with the correct bulb should work just fine. Most are plug and play.
