Default Headlight Customize Shop Review - Custom Lightz

As an early Christmas present to myself, I decided to get my headlight customized. Took me a while to find a good shop to do it for me, reasons being most of them are asking for ridiculous price for a few simple tasks I would like to get done.

So here is what I wanted:
painted housing and shroud
halo ring placed within the shroud wired to parking light

I was surprised that some shops would ask for as much as close to $1000 to have those done (although I know they did quite a decent jobs). Therefore I went on to search around the internet for a reputable place nearby that would do it for a much more reasonable price.

And this is where I come across Custom Lightz....

For a little background, Bjorn (owner of the business) had done a lot of work in the Honda community, and has quite a good reputation there. Since he would be available nearby (from Austin to San Antonio), I went ahead and contacted him.

It took him a while to respond my first email, but things went smoothly afterwards. He asked for every details on what I wanted to do/achieve and would provide useful suggestions. He gave me options to either mail him the lights or simply drop off the car. I decided to let him keep the car for a day since God knows how much the shipping for the lights are....We set up an appointment and I drove down to San Antonio the past weekend to have it done.

During the process, if he notice something might go weird/wrong, he would call and express his concern and opinion to see what's my final decision would be. So if the original plan ended up would look like a piece of crap, he will let you know, instead of letting you stuck with a piece of crap looking design.

Here are a few pics he sent me during the build process to make sure I'm happy:

He basically done all the work on the first day, and on second day was just waiting for the paint to cure and seal everything back up.

I don't have any daytime picture of the finished product yet, but here are a couple shots of the headlight at night:

with both headlights and halo on:

with only the halo on:

So far I'm happy with the work he done. I still have to wait a bit and see if there are any paint/heat issue.

and FYI, he also do work in Richmond, VA and Long Island, NY... so if you are not near San Antonio, you can still find him in those places.

PS. He mentioned he had some pics of my car taken and would email to me. But I still haven't received them or seen them on the website/facebook page. I would update with more pics later whenever I got them.

$400 included everything
Well I didn't DIY since I'm not comfortable with painting and sealing the housing, the price seems fair to me compare to what everyone else was asking for.

Although I guess I will have to man up and replace the plastic cover at some point since the black housing is making all the scratches looks so much more obvious...

Good price. Instead of black curious carbon fiber dip or something.

Looks good BTW.

Twisted Houzings does CF headlight dip for ~$200 if you get additional mods I believe. Looks like he did well on your housings. I'm debating getting mine painted since I got the depo '06 lights, but the black is too glossy for the rest of the car.

twisted houzings is a vendor on the zcarmotoring.com site…. He seems to have fairly reasonable pricing and works almost exclusively on Zs. All his info and pricing can be found there. I've been considering getting a few things done myself. I just can't decide if I'll like the black housings on a white Z… Need to see them on someones car in person.
