Continued using the Avery vinyl today and am still amazed at how "workable" the material is. Even when I have an air bubble that I think "there's no way this is not going to crease", it will smooth out without needing to be lifted again. Both doors, A pillars and the hatch are done. Now onto the curvy shtuff...

Avery is very easy to work with and highly conformable. Only caveat is, its not durable, pain in *** to remove if parked outside in the elements often. Its thinner compared to 3m and other brands.

Probably going to do the hood in 3 pieces, one across the cowl up front , then another down each side. I'm leaving the cowl and behind the cowl CF

Well, I've tried everything I've read online and can't figure this out. The antenna base/assembly...how do you remove it? I've tried everything on the forum (turning counter clockwise, etc) and it won't budge. The inner assembly has the metal clip as shown and turning it slightly and pulling down is halted by the outer "ring" above the base that is fixed to the threaded antenna part...so I'm lost. I'll take any advice at this point. Pictures:

You have to unscrew the top, then it should come out the bottom with a little wiggling.

By the top I mean the ring with two notches in it.

A wrap over a wrap.

Normally I would take everything apart but this is a temporary wrap. Still need to figure out the next long term color, leaning towards metallic yellow.

Its been a few month since I wrapped the whip, but here is a little update. I've driven thousands of miles and so far everything is holding up quite well. Besides a few minor rock chips in the bumper, I really cant find anything wrong with it.... No peeling, fading or bubbling. I'm actually thinking of doing a matte gunmetal sometime next year.Official vinyl wrapping thread.-img_2619.jpg

My X has been wrapped in 3m satin white pearl for over 2 years now, only issue has been staining and a few minor chips.

Been swamped, got my pass side skirt ready to wrap and my rear add ons. Hood is ready as soon as I get the hood pins properly set.

Sparco...is the gloss really THAT much harder than the matte/satin?

Just the bumpers that screw me up. Can't imagine if the gloss color get varied on those corners.

Thanks

This is with 3m: I'm overly detail oriented and want my wraps to look as good as paint, but most people don't care or won't notice. I just wrapped a BMW i3 in 3m metallic gloss black and didn't like the outcome due to the orange peel effect. My friend loved it and didn't notice. So its really up to the person doing the wrap and the owner of the car. Darker gloss colors are more difficult to get 100% perfect kind of like gloss black paint, flaws are more noticeable. Light colors in gloss, satin, or matte have been easier to install.

Avery gloss has been very easy to work with and have less orange peel effect, but Avery vinyl is thinner and less durable. I had no problems removing 3m wrap after 3 years but had difficulties removing Avery after less than 2 years. Color, shade, weather, sun exposure will factor into this variable.
