My new Guage pod

King: That crinkle doesn't really match the OEM pillar very well. If that's what it looks like I think I need to pass on it. Maybe it's just the flash on the camera but it really seems to stand out a lot more than the regular one (the crinkle).
Have you done one in "flat" paint yet? If so, can you post or send me a pic so I can decide if I still want one.

Yeah, that finish seems to be a bit too shiny. I think that I am going to try a flat black, that may be a closer match. I may also give a few body shops a call and see what they recommend.

Good job daking350. Looks like you followed the instructions to the T. Looks great! On the next one, try making it smooth and just paint it the same color as the exterior. It should look better. Or wrap it like Jeff, that one looks even better.

I think the construction of the pod looks very, very good. As far as the textured finish goes, I think it will be functional in that it reduces glare making the gauges easier to see in different sun conditions. The "finish" is of course a personal preferance but at this point I am giving daking350 a total thumbs up for his ability to take the instructions and produce a finished product that is true to the model that m3powerrr originally posted. Excellent Job!

Im gonna try and make 4 of them and if anyone is interested to buy them off me let me know..I am just looking for the cost of all the materials involved and a few bucks for my time...I enjoy doing projects and working with my hands and would like to help some people out since no major manufacturers felt it was a necesity to produce a guage pod for a TRUE sports car ,yet produces them for every HONDA family wagon out there

I think it looks great, but I think it would look better if some of the shine could be taken away so that it would better match the other interior plastic. maybe a wet sanding would do the trick?

To paint, you must get rid of the texture. In order to do this, snad the whole pillar down with ~80 grit. Then when the texture is almost gone, go over it with ~180 or 320. Next is the tricky part about painting plastics. When you primer the part, start with very, I mean very light coats. You'll probably end up using 1/4 of what you spray.
Start ight, make sure it dries before the next coat. Do several until you think it's good enough. After it dries, just use some scuff pads or 1000 grit then paint. It takes time, but the finish is awesome.
