Default Best Aftermarket Roadster Top?

I just literally bought a 06 350z roadster and after 2 days of driving a small tear turned into like a 3 inch tear. I got an incredible deal so I guess that balances out the cost for the top. I was wondering what top you guys think would be best? The issue with the top I have now is that its the OEM one and those tend to rip at the left and right side of the back window, as mine is doing that. I came to understand that many tops being sold now (from websites that specialize in tops) are different fabric and are proven to not rip by the window as they are not OEM. I found a couple of websites that provide different types of materials for the tops and I wanted to know what you guys think would be the most durable and the most quiet.

Which one should I get when winter starts? Just looking for a very durable top that works perfectly when putting it up and down and that doesnt tear from putting it up and down too much, and a decently quiet one when driving 75mph on the freeway. Thanks guys.

Do you plan to install the top yourself? If you want a shop to install it, I would talk to them before you order anything. Making the top work perfectly is a very difficult do it yourself project unless you have experience doing tops. One of the better convertible tops is make by Robbins and cloth is probably the preferred material.

Tears by the four corrners of the rear window are a common failure point. You find this on tops that are left open for extended periods of time. More wear happens to the top when it is folded up and stuffed in the storage hatch. Because the glass is riged the fabric is stressed at those corners, when the top is up there is no stress. If you put the top up when you park the car for the evening, the top can last a long time.

The oem vinyl style top work well in a temperate climate (not too hot). The pure fabric tops are harder to install and streach out, but have a better look. In the long run, with proper maintenance they can both last about the same amount of time. I sold my Roaster after 10 years of daily driving and the original top still looked and functioned like new. Keep in mind there are five motors to operate the top and a lot of complcated folding/stuffing going on to deploy it, so do keep on top of all the maintenance.

As stated, the Robbins tops are cut and sewn fairly accurately. Most all tops you see advertised use the same Haartz vinyl and or fabric materials.

I did mine at home with a Haartz Stayfast black cloth top from topsonline.com . It is the non-vinyl version. Fit is perfect, ive been very happy with it. I think I paid about $650 shipped, got in 4 days. gl

Default Convertible Top Installer Recommendations

I don't need one now but maybe down the road I will. I would like to have a list of really great installers within a 250 mile radius of Oklahoma City.
