Default Convertible Issue - Not Opening

Hello Fellow Z Owners!

I ran into my first issue with my 2005 Roadster Convertible. My convertible top is now presenting the following issue. With the car started, Gear in Neutral position (mine is a stick), the Latch Opened and then the Switch pressed to the Open position.

The latch sounds pop to indicate the back part of the top should raise in order for the back part covering the top raise. The issue is the back part of the soft top does no raise at all. I have manually raised that part to the point where the rear cover opens accoridng and it does. Did I blow a motor in the top or a switch or?

When I first got my 350z the roof had not been retracted in over a year and a friend who owned it previously said he thought it was broken.

Garage who serviced the car and replaced the brakes said the same. It would only open have way. "It's gonna cost a fortune".

When I got it home I sprayed lubricant on all the moving parts. Tried it an hour later. No issue. It was fine.

I just took it out of storage after 18 months. I feared the worst regarding the roof as its 12 years old. But it's fine.

I honestly believe 90% of ZR roof issues are down to this. The 350z roof design is ridiculously over complicated with a lot of moving parts. If they are not properly lubricated the motors can't cope.

People say these roofs won't retract in winter. It's for the same reason. They do if they are lubricated well.

Manchester winters can be cold and my roof still operates as it should.

The OP has not been on here for five years.

Did you search? There are about forty "convertible top fix" threads, all about fifth bow motor and its R&R, replacement top too tight, latches, with pointers to factory manuals.
