Angry 03-05 headlights blacked out housing

I know there's 1-2 threads about this but they are pretty old and I would like to get up to date answers.

I have an 03 z and I absolutely despise those headlights. I thought about getting 06/depo headlights but I don't see spending $700 CAD on headlights. I'm really thinking about getting the headlight housing blacked out. I've seen on some forums different answers everytime... Does blacking out the housing reduce the light output to a noticable difference? What if I upgrade the xenon/hi beams? Anyone has a fix for those cheap looking headlights that doesn't reduce the light output? If you have blacked out housing on 03-05 headlights, I would appreciate pictures too since on the old threads I can't seem to be able to see the pictures...

Thanks guys!

Why are they $700 CAD? They're $359 US? on eBay:

To answer your other questions, painting your housings black won't decrease the light output. There really isn't any upgrade for the Xenon high beams, and don'y believe the hype on cheap Chinese-made bulbs. Philips, Sylvania, Osram, and Morimoto are OEM-quality and the best in terms of performance and longevity. If you really want better headlights, the DEPO are what you need.

Since the '03-'05 headlights are reflective, painting them black will reduce your light output. I wouldn't recommend painting them.

common sense would tell you that it is. it is a reflector, if you paint it black there is no way it can reflect the light

Agreed! ^^^

And if you REALLY wanna do 'em up, go here (since you'll need ballasts for them anyways...)

...and build out some serious light for your side of the road (non-obnoxious, just good stuff.)

Uprate 'em to 55w, clean up the projectors, aim 'em right, good to go!
