Default ? for those with custom grille

I have a question for those of you that have made your own front grille with door edge guard material.

After trying three auto parts stores, I finally found one with a roll of edge guard, supposedly for trucks. It's only 3/8" though and when I got it home, I realized there is no way that's going to fit over the black plastic Z grill.

Do you recall what size edge guard trim you're using?

thanks,
Dave

i had a scrap piece lying around, but i cannot locate it. i am not positive, but 3/8" sounds right. i remember that it was for trucks and it was a ***** to get on initially. once you get it started, it is easy to put on. i separated the skin between both of my thumbs and thumb nails.

try prying it open with a screwdriver to get it started. that is what i should have done but didnt have one handy. also, consider glueing it down. the adhesive seems to wear off a bit after a while.

Ragtopz:

Thanks, I finally fought with it a bit and got it on. I sure didn't look like it was going to fit but it's definitely a tight fit.

What kind do you have for sale? I've seen a couple of "real" grilles that I like. The one that I really like is more in the $200 range and requires removal of the OEM black plastic grille. I might go for one of those later.

I got my street scene grill for $100 shipped. It's the nicest IMO. Does have any rubbery surrounds. PM and I can send you the link.

nothing personal z-noob, but my friend has one of those and me and my other friends call it the cheese grater grill.

then again, it seems you have the black one, so it wouldnt be as obvious as his. i was trying to tell him to paint his gunmetal or something, but he doesnt want to go through the hassle of taking it off and putting it on again.

I've also heard them described as making the car look like a remington electric shaver....

I like the horizontal bar look, not the screen or grating look.

Thanks

To each their own. I like mine and I don't care what you think The reason there are so many of these grills available for the Z is because of the various taste everyone has. BTW I've also heard it called chicken wire. Wouldn't want any chickens to get behind my grill

BTW that was a joke about not caring about your opinion. I know sometimes it comes across wrong on posting or written. All opinions are good to read. That's what makes these forums entertaining. With that said.
