Default Oil temp gauge dimming

Hello all, looking for you're help. I'm in process of installing a Oil Temp gauge on my 03 Z.(touring) if that comes into play. I'd like the illumination of the gauge to function just the same as the factory gauges; auto dim when the headlights are turned on and manually brightness/dim with the controls to the left of the steering wheel. I've tapped my ground and key on 12v source from the wire harness that plugs into the triple gauge cluster at the center of the dash; hopefully one of the wires in that small harness will fit the bill.
That's my question. Which wire will accomplish this?
Thanks.

Where are you installing your gauge?
If you are installing it close to the center triple then you could always tap in to the ILL wire in the radio harness. It is the red / blue wire, IIRC.

I have installed the oil temp gauge in the clam shell cubby; I'll back probe the red/blue wire in the radio harness and check.
Thanks.

Thumbs up 813 350Z, the red wire with blue stripe in the radio harness indeed works with the headlight on/off control. My gauge doesn't dim/brighten … not a issue based on where I have it mounted plus I can always simply unplug the gauge wire if there's a situation calls for it.
