Default $5,000 for intakes??

Be lucky that the 350z's performance parts are cheap. A buddy of mine just spent $5k on a carbon fiber intake for his new M3. Pretty crazy huh?

he got ripped off

arguably the nicest intakes for the M3, or any car are gruppe m, which also make one for the Zs too - at most they are in the low $1k range

gonna agree with Z1 performance. your buddy got ripped off, and those are the best intakes short of a turbo.

Unless that thing adds 100+ rwhp, your friend is not too bright. On the other hand, maybe he is feeding you some bullsh__.

He didn't get ripped off. It's just what they are going for.

Here's a different one being sold by a guy named MPilot. I think this one comes with software also.
This guy states that:
Stage I
Carbon Fiber Race Airbox with MAF and software mapping would yield approx. 20 - 25 WHP on 91-93 AKI

Here is an airbox that goes for $2200. That is for the box alone and does not include mass air or software.

Well, thats a plenum, not an intake, so a bit different. Perhaps he should have contacted Crawford or Kinetix to make one

But honestly, for half of what he just dropped on that plenum, he could have fitted standalone engine management, had total control over the ecu, the ITB;'s, the fly by wire, ditched the MAF, and been able to completely tune the car for whatever his future mods hold (guess whats going onto the E46 Speed Cup car as we speak

Wish your friend luck.....I cringed when I bought my Gruppe M one, though I have been 100% satisfied, its still quite an expensive piece!

the carbon kevlar airbox is that expensive because it is specially designed for the m3.... AC Schnitzer one will be even higher due to its name. I guess he is not ripped off at all since it is from BMW M Power division!

cheers,

richie

well he does have Moton's as well, so its either a VERY serious car, or a guy who has the cash to drop....either way its cool, but at some point, the law of diminishing returns steps in IMHO

BMW aftermarket products cost way too much. Check out the prices Dinan has for their E39 M5 products.

I guess if people are stupid enough to pay the prices, they will continue to be priced for the stupid.

I think actually the price $5000 is from Turner Motorsports and that includes all installation and tuning. The reason its so expensive is that the intake you see if from a M3 CSL. The CSL parts are extremely rare and hard to get. The only way you can get the parts are if you won a CSL and have the Vin # to prove it in order to get the parts and software. So actually just being able to get the intake is a huge task in its own. But yes BMW parts are quite overpriced. Especially the CSL ones. The price you pay for trying to be original.
