i want to paint/powdercoat mine too... i wanna see pics when you do them. how much is it costing you to powdercoat them? i would go with gloss black.

do you see any downsides to paint, other than powdercoat last longer and is less resisitant to chipping? would i be ok if i used a high quality clear coat?

gloss, silvers not a real "dark" color. cant pull off a matte black, itd look dull compared with the silver.

powder coating is a process of spraying a colored powder onto bare metal(all previous finish is sand blasted off). then the powder is baked onto the surface forming a strong bond, stronger than paint could.

powder coating is strong to impacts, meaning it doesnt chip. but its not a fan of chemicals. paint is the exact opposite. which is why its reccomended that you powder coat rims and then put a clear coat over it. gives you the protection of paint(you can wash and wax it like you would a car), but more durability for a rough place like a rim.

might want to trade your rims first

probably a few members here that would gladly trade their regular 18s+100$ or something for your chromed stockers. just seems a pity to destroy what I thought was a 2000$ option or something.

and yes, you need to find a powder coating shop. not sure how the clear coat comes in, I think you need to take them seperately to a paint shop to have that done.

they will come out completely black, it is a solid finish, they can do most any color, and texture dont forget that. paint mainly has to be smooth, they have a bit more freedom with powder coat.

DEFINITLY NOT WHITE MATTE. ewww nasty, sorry, that would be way too blah. also little to no chance of it matching the pearl of the paint. no, erase that from your mind now. it can look ok on blue or red, not white.

may want to consider gold, the top secret Z looked incredably sexy with the gold rims. but black will look good too. a matte black even might give it a real business oriented look if that makes sense.

they dont need a clear coat. if you have the cash thought itd be good. otherwise youll be guessing if stuff is safe for them, like waxes, or if you drive through a puddle that has gasoline or oil in it, it could effect the powder coat.

Im pretty sure the factory finish is powder with clear. but someone can correct me if Im mistaken.
