The instructions illustrate how the ballasts and ignitors plug up to each other but since the plugs were so distinctive, you find yourself not referring to the manual at all.

The most detailed instruction you have to follow would probably be taking apart the funnel. I used Ares' online instructions:

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=55808

and even with those instructions..you realize how much easier it is to take apart the wheel well once you're down there actually taking out the nuts.

Once you get inside...everything else is pretty common sense...the headlight is layed out pretty clear. It's pretty much like figuring out how a gun works or stacking bricks. Just don't do the obvious and look down the barrel while pulling the trigger. In our case, that'd be squeezing the bulbs and tugging them out violently!

Give yourself a good afternoon and just take your time. It's not a hard project..but definitely not a rush one either.

Did you have to run the 12V wire? How did you mount the ballast?

The wires that originally connected the halogens to the battery will disconnect from that H7 halogen and directly connect to your ballasts. You're just simply pulling out your old bulb and sticking in the new one with ballast and ignitor as a transitional system between your battery and new HID bulbs.

OLD: BATTERY:Halogen bulb
NEW:BATTERY:BALLAST:IGNITOR:HID bulb

Mounting my ballasts was fairly easy too... the kit was supplied with these metal brackets that screw on to the ballasts. When you get inside the car you'll see a metal frame type thing with holes in it.. jutting down from the headlight. Theres nothing there but just a slot where the frame is. Thats a perfect place to mount the metal brackets on the ballasts because it's farthest away from the engine's heat.
Magically, the kit has screws and nuts that fit right through the holes in the frame allowing you to mount it. The kit also comes with zip ties and 3m type tape just in case you want to do some SERIOUS securing to avoid rattling (or peace of mind!).

The passenger side is a tad bit tougher because theres less room with the plastic water container (i still don't know what it is...coolant? windshield washer fluid?) The spot where I mounted my ballasts on the DRIVER side...the water container resides in that place on the PASSENGER side. It'll be a tite spot but you can mount the ballast in there right next to that container using the same metal frame to stabilize it. I recommend doing the driver side first so you get a good idea of where the ballasts can go. Get the easy one out of the way.

Some may think likewise, but you have alot of freedom when it comes to mounting the ballasts. I just recommend not mounting too far close into the engine bay area where lots of heat is retained.
The ignitors are fairly light and can be doublesided taped to the ballasts or any place you please. You'll find in the kit...the 3m style tape that is cut to the exact size of the ignitor.

Any other questions let me know. I'm trying to be as thorough as possible because when I was doing my research...any bit of info helped!

35oZephyR, Do you notice long warm up times or flickering at all from a cold start? I'm just asking because on my 98 eclipse I had a low voltage problem which was remedied by supplying power directly from the battery. I'm sure the 350z's electrical is better, but had to ask.

Theres one blink when you switch it on the first time...then it takes roughly 15 seconds to turn from dark blue to white. I was surprised to find out they charge up so quickly. When it was first installed, I filmed the on and charge up with my digital camera. I'll see if my buds can host it...and i'll post it here.

I think I read your post on the importhookup forums?

Hey kbomb,

I was literally flippin a coin at the last minute when I was trying to decide between 6000k and 5000k. The 6000k cost a little more and I told myself that even though the 6k looked really cool, I'm probably going to get pulled over.
I live near a town that was the former race mecca of san diego and the cops are still **** about alot of things. I was trying to look as inconspicuous as possible at night. Took it safe and went with the 5000k.
When I look at my headlights dead on, standing in front of my car, from a few yards away it looks very white. Like an intense white.
However, I noticed that when I drive behind silver/white cars and look at my headlights on the reflection of the cars in front of me...theres a slight hint of blue like yours. So theres definitely a color flux from far away.

Now I need to change the parking lights because that's the only thing inside the headlamp that still looks yellow. Do you happen to know if the number is 168 or 194? OR is it the same thing? I'm looking to change it to a white Led.

Hey Zeph, are your bulbs D2S or D2R? I have to purchase new bulbs and I believe that I need D2R but I'm not sure that I want re-based alternatives....

yeah that parking light bothers me too. I think 194 or 168 are the same. I would ask Ares, he makes these in LEDs for sale.

I believe they're D2R.... Someone mentioned D2S as reserved for projector housings.

Yeah I might have to get some off of Ares. I went to a bunch of autoparts stores and with close examination the 194's and 168's look exactly the same.

Hey dave. I changed the turn signals to silver the same time I was installing my HID's. The original amber ones made the whole top housing orange and you could see it from every angle! I got mines from EVOstyle. They weren't cheap but they got to my house FAAAST and look beautiful inside the headlight.

I'm definitely changing the parking lights because it's totally off color when the headlights are on...it's killin it!
Still deciding whether or no I should order PIAA high intensity LED's or ARe's LED's. Ares' looks great at night but I dont know how much of that black casing around his bulbs will show in our housing.

BTW: Your avatar is great...my room mate and I have every first generation transformer (from the first series) in their original packages!
