Default looking to mount LEDs in random spots?

after a few threads with different LED ideas, I decided I should find a simple way to let people flushmount LEDs wherever they choose.

and Ive succeeded.

I do not know where the good camera is, so these crappy 2mp photos will have to do for now to show how the system works.

Heres the parts that it has

you drill a 1/4" hole in the spot you want to mount it, and place the flush mount in from the front.

next you add the LED in from behind. then slide the holder ring in over it. for best results a drop of superglue will hold it together, but its pretty firm without it.

and the final step, you simple slide the connector onto the LED leads.

They look similar to an offering from Painless Wiring: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...21&prmenbr=361

and thats it. you have the LED mounted with gaps, no seams, and no exposed edges from the hole you drilled.

the mount is black, but you could paint it whatever color you wanted. Im trying to locate some nice chrome mounts.

pretty much, but these are 5mm LEDs, and I was thinking about 2.50$ as a price, rather than 9-12$.

I still need to toss a resistor in the line and heatshrink it. I just got home with the parts and put them together.

Just some options for anyone that wants to put LEDs in their gauges or in their headliner or trunk, or wherever else you feel like it.

I bought enough parts for 10LEDs, I have

10,000mcd white
4000mcd red-amber
5000mcd yellow-amber
5000mcd blue(not sure how many of these... only a few)
and 3000mcd red

I can get more of the parts next week. I just grabbed 10 to see how they worked.

Default Looks cool

Ares,

This looks cool. I have been looking at having a custom emblem made to replace the Vielside emblem on my Veislside V.2 spoiler and I think it might be cool to incorporate some LED's there as well as on the side emblems like this.

https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....0&pagenumber=1

Do you think your lights would work?

can the lights be flush or do they stick out a bit

Also I finally had a chance to remove and send you my clear corners. You should have then probably Monday or Tuesday. PLease PM ot email me when you get them dbs@ureach.com. To refresh your memory I bought the 7 LED clear corners, parking lights and clear strip. WHat's the ETA on them?

Thanks

hopefully this week.

these are 5mm LEDs far too big for the emblem, they wouldnt fit, and the flush mount would be the width of the Z.

I think he used something like 1.Xmm LEDs, I dont even know where he found them.

I got a new place for leds for you. I tried it on mine and it is pretty cool. The 3 dots on the passenger side door. I used 3 3mm leds and dropped the voltage enough so that they are not too bright. You can wire it right into the power window in the door. It adds a nice touch to the interior lighting. I am sure you can see about ordering that part and making them, I just dont have the time. I will post pictures soon.

Default Thanks

Thanks for your reply. Did you see what he did to his door handles later in that post.

Don't get me wrong I commend him on his imagination but I am still trying to figure out if its, interesting for the design and look or if I am liking it just because it's different.

Anyway sorry for hijacking your thread and for anyone out there thinking of LEDS ARES IS DEFINATELY THE MAN. He has always been prompt with responses to questions and even if it wasn't financially advantages for him he will always give his honest opinion.

Thanks

That's a good idea. You're always thinking of new mods aren't you??
Hey did you ever get some more LEDS for the headlight?

Can you install some on mine?

I actually had one person ask about LEDs in the handle, but not showing through like that, he wanted a red backlight to shine out on his redline Z.

havent done it. I am hesistant to install LEDs there though, specially in the location of the dots, just because of the handling they will get. doing stuff for yourself is one thing, and it works fine, but if for some reason you grab it wrong, or it breaks, no big deal, you can fix it. but if I make them and someone else breaks it and its their fault, I dont want to ever tell someone I cant fix it for them cause its not my problem.
