bulb replacement
Has anyone replaced the bulbs on the base with the sylvania silverstar bulbs, and if so, how much trouble was it to get into the headlight housing? I see one screw that looks like it is holding it, but i am wondering if there are more out of view.
Thanks.
Thanks.
I replaced the high-beams on my Track with Sylvania Silverstars, and I'm honestly a bit disappointed. They simply aren't that white... still a yellow-ish tinge.
To get at the bulbs, you must jack up the front end, take off each wheel, remove the fender protectors (fender lining)*, unscrew bulb access panel, and unclip the stock bulbs.
* The tricky part of this is removing 3 plastic rivets that can/will break, and there's no avoiding this. You'll need to replace the rivets once you're done.
PM me for more info.

You need to take off the entire inner fender to get to it actually and go in from behind. Its fairlt easy. You need to remove 4 bolts from under the front bumper and i believe 3 clips from the inner fender. There is also one screw at about the 11 o'clock position on the top portion of the inner fender that connects it to the outer fender. It just slips right off after that. Just have to jack the car up and cut the wheel off so you have room to work with.
I would actually recommend saving up though and just going with a real HID kit. You can get a good one from importhookup.com.
There are many base owners on this board with them.

yeah, i may end up doing that, especially since roadranger said he was a bit disappointed in the sylvanias. Would it be best to just have the dealer install the HID kit, or is it something that you can do by yourself?

I'm gonna take back what I said about the Silverstars... they really are white, but I when I replaced the high-beams I figured those were the actual DRL's, which they are not.
The Silverstars are very white, and now I need to figure out how to get replacement "whiter" bulbs for my DRL's (i.e., parking lights)...
Anyone know who makes replacement parking light bulbs in a whiter temperature than stock?

I would be extremely suprised if the DRL are the parking lights. thats a tiny 5w bulb and really doesnt put out much light that it would be remotely visible in the day. when looking at the housing there are 3 bulbs, 1 is the HID, of course you know where that is, and that cannot be the DRL, or it shouldnt be.
then below that is a larger bulb and a much much smaller bulb that is towards the side of the car. which of those is lit for DRLs? should be the center mounted larger bulb, if its going to be even slightly visible during the day anyway.

Man, I must be sleep deprived, or something...
The highs are, in fact, the DRLs. The Silverstars only appear really white at full brightness, but dimmed down to DSL intensity, they are the same temp' (colour) as the stock DSLs.
Oh well... it was worth a shot.
Anyone have any suggestions other than Silverstars for whiter DRLs?
