I was wondering if Yellow Headlights (HID) were illegal? heard somewere any color other than white in your headlights was illegal. but if that is that case how do they sell yellow fog lights and also put them on the LEXUS from the factory. I just REALLY love this look. so any help would be appretiated.
Call your local CHP office. Usually they offer straightforward and friendly advise. I asked about aftermarket lights. The officer basically told me that only white (headlights) and amber (yellow
arking/signal) should be visible from the front, red and amber from the rear. I asked about adding xenon lights that looked blue (for my old Si). I was told that as long as he could hold a blank 3x5 in front of the headlight and it produced a white light, he would not cite for it. I asked about others that came from factory. He said no problem because original equipment okay for CA (verses dealer install, etc). He did point out that if an officer wanted to go strictly by the DMV code, I could get cited for modifying original lighting equipment. Sorry, no simple yes or no answer for you.

We sell yellow headlamp bulbs and havent had any problem with them. They do not use any filters on the actual headlight, its the bulb itself that produces the yellow light. They are especially useful in areas with poor weather conditions (fog).

As far as I know, there is no problem with yellow lights. I know blue lights in the rear is a big no-no cause that color is reserved for the CHP. But then again you always see those guys with neon license plate frames in all colors, so I would say contact the CHP as well and see what they have to say about it.
I'm not sure how much of a problem it would be for the fact that there are plenty of people with halogen lamps that look pretty darned yellow
But for real, if you're talking about PIAA foglight yellow, there are going to be legal implications (at least in CA where almost everything is illegal
).
).
They are illegal. Whether a cop wants to give you a ticket for it, that's another story.
Any color other than white is illegal for headlights. For foglights, you can have yellow lights.
You can't have blue or red lights up front, because as stated before, those colors are reserved.
Turn signals must be red/amber in the rear, amber up front.
Turn signals should not be white, so if the cop wants to give you a ticket, he can.
This info is from first-hand experience.

theres a law I beleive that says modifications to lighting system. theres many more with specific stuff. but the cop can give a ticket for pretty much anything if he wants. you change from 4300 to 4400k bulbs and he COULD ticket you.
I think 99% of the time, this has to do with what the rest of the car looks like(ferrari with yellow headlights not as much of a target as a civic), cops mood, other infractions you may have done(speeding, no liscense plate), and generally if he likes you.
its not a moving violation, so atleast no points. might not even be a fix it ticket. so you get your first warning at a cost of 50$ or so, and sell them if it appears to be an issue.
