Default Painted Taillights

For those of you who have painted your taillights, what kind of paint was used? I am assuming it is some sort of transparent black. How well dothe taillights light up during the day and/or night? Thanks.

On my GTP I used a spray tint called NIGHT SHADES....but just the spray alone looks dull...you have to clear coat it OR sand it with 2000 grit paper, use rubbing compound and wax...looked sharp then.

How long did you bake the taillights for and at what setting? Is there any way to tell if the lights are bakeable or not? I don't know if the G35 taillights are the same style.

it was VHT night shades... really cool stuff..

reasons not to get an overlay..

1. with the paint, you can get whatever darkness you want.

2. with the paint, you can get a good clearcoat on and buff it to shine... zaino works too on this stuff..

3. i would think that it is a little more durable

so what color did you use? Also what type of prepping did you do to the taillight surface? And finally what brand of clearcoat did you use? Thanks a lot.

there is the stuff.. to prep the surface, sand with 800 grit paper to get the shine off the taillights. I think I used plastikote or krylon laquer clearcoat.. you can put it on thick and then wet sand and buff to a brilliant shine...

(oh wait.. i might get banned for that link!.. they dont sponsor this site!)

here's some before and after pics of my GTp tails. The before is just the tail light tint sprayed on...the after is after buffing with 2000 grit sandpaper, rubbing compound and then waxing. The Night Shade used to cost 5.00 a can...then they jacked them up to 10.99 a can...bastards.

Look at that shine!

I went kinda light cuz I didnt want to get hassled buy the cops. I may do my Z lights like this...I'm afraid film may get swirls and scratches.

I was thinking about doing this to the sides of the headlight to cover up that orange strip. How does one wet sand? Wet the surface and sandpaper or?

wet sanding = keep the surface wet.. either with water hose or spray bottle.. must use sand paper made for the job, and you will use some really fine grit stuff.. i used 1500, 2000, 2500 grit paper and then buffed.
