Default Daytime running lights - bulb?

Canadain market Zs run with a headlight on during the daytime. It's not the main headlight and cannot be switched off.
I want to change the bulb for a superwhite as the stock bulb is an old fashioned (cheap) off white job and looks well, you know...
My local Nissan dealer couldn't tell me what aftermarket part number I would look for and recommended that I didn't change for these superwhite ones as they might be "hotter and explode". The things my Dealership says are not even funny anymore.

Anyhow... anybody know what I'm talking about and can give the (H4?) or whatever part number?

they are your hi beams.

however someone tried swapping them and found out that the "hyper white" bulbs dont look hyper white unless their at 100% power. which your DRLs are not. they run at about 60% normal power.

basicly... you have no options Im afraid. but maybe try a hyper white bulb, perhaps youll get a different brand and have better luck with it.

that's rite, you can never get white beams because they are running the high beam lights in low power for DRLs

anyone know how to disconnect it? like the fuse?

That "someone" is me, and you are correct...

Replacing the high-beams (which are H7s) with Sylvania Silverstars seemed like a great idea, but they are only really white when they are at 100% brightness. When they are in DRL "mode", they do not get enough power to shine bright enough to look white. In fact, they look very stock.

If I could figure out a way to re-wire the DSLs to operate at 100% of full high-beam power, I'd be happy... not that it would be legal, but hey, who sticks to the law 100% of the time.

have you considered using a more bluish colored bulb?

on my old car I had the same issue, and I went with a bulb that emitted very blue colored light @ 100%... but at 60% it looked white (with a tint of blue)

only side effect is the blue tint it gives off in your headlight housing during the day ... somewhat ricey
