Post Technical How To: Track Rear Diffuser Installation

Today I received a set of Rear Track Diffusers from Performance Nissan, a my350z.com sponser.

Parts Required:
Driver side rear diffuser (1)
Passenger side rear diffuser (1)
Nissan exterior body fastner (2)
Note: These parts are included in the Performance Nissan Rear Track Diffuser Package.

M6x16 pitch 1.0 Hex Bolt (2)
M6 Washers (4)
M6 Nylock Nut (2)
Note: These parts were need in addition to the Performance Nissan Rear Track Diffuser Package.

Reccommend Tools:
1/4 - 3/8 Drive Rachet
1/4 - 3/8 Drive Metric sockets Size: 10mm
Blue Loctite

Description of mount points:
The driver side has two mount points in the wheel well area. The front most point is a stud that is obstructed by the tire. The middle point is a hole for the fastner. The rear most point is a stud on the bottom of the car.

The passenger side has one mount point hole for the fastner. There are two additional pre-threaded holes on the bottom of the car for M6 1.0 pitch bolts.

Preparation:
Clean around the rear wheels and fender. Take care to remove stuck on road debris to insure flat mounting. Include the under carriage of the car. There is no need to raise the vehicle. The top forward most stud on the driver side may not be accessible on lowered vehicles, unless raised.

Installation:
1. Align the driver side deflector with the mounting hole and studs (2).

2. Insert Nissan exterior body fastner in the mounting hole. No drilling is required.

3. Install M6 Nyloc Nut with M6 washer on studs (2). Tighten. Not much torque is required. Avoid over tightening and damaging the stud.

4. Align the passenger side deflector with mounting holes.

5. Insert the Nissan exterior body fastner into the wheel well hole to keep the deflector in place.

6. Prepare the M6 hex bolts. Install washers and apply blue loctite.

7. Line up the two bottom holes and insert M6 hex bolts and washers. Thread to keep in place.

8. Tighten the two bottom M6 hex bolts. Take care not to strip the pre-threaded holes.

Below I will attach several images.

Driver side deflector installed. Notice how you can no longer see the flanges that connect the Nismo S-Tune Exhaust B-pipe to the rear muffler section.

Passenger side diffuser installed. I chopped it so you could see more of the deflector and highlight another mount point.

I got the rear track diffuser package from Performance Nissan.

http://www.performancenissanparts.co...roducts_id=693

The website says, "all necessary clips and bolts for install". Which I found not to be true.

Jason or Jeff let me know if the bolts and nuts were missing from my package.

I did a test drive last night and there was a difference at 120kph / 85mph. I could feel the rear of the car. The difference could be greater because I have Nismo S-tune exhaust which does NOT have the stock 350Z exhaust deflector. I am not sure if this is due to lower drag or less lift or both. The rear of the car is deffinitely connected to the rest of the car at that speed. I never felt that the Z was loose in the rear at 85mph before this mod.

Semi-related question for you guys: I have the aerodynamics package on my Touring and have a large plastic, wedge-shaped thing that I guess directs airflow down and around the muffler. It is actually attached to the muffler and faces towads the front of the car. Is this part of the aero package or is it on all Z's?

I don't have the track diffusers and don't understand why they didn't come as part of the aero package.

Marketing. The aero package comes with the front chin aero deflector and rear spoiler. The track model Z and G35C have the rear diffusers only. I assume Nissan wanted another selling point for the track model by stating it has zero lift rear and .29 CD. The rear diffusers and front chin aero deflector contribute the most to the low drag. The spoiler reduces drag, but is mainly there for increased downforce.

The wedge infront of the stock muffler section is standard on all 350Z. Switching from Nismo exhaust (no muffler section diffuser) and no rear diffusers, to rear diffusers MADE a difference.

Below is the front chin aero deflector.

Jason from Performance assures me they are updating the rear diffuser package to include all nuts and bolts. They based their package on what the Nissan system says is required, which was only the fastner/clips.
