Default Xenon upgrade for base

I tried to search and could not find what I was looking for. Can I upgrade my base model to the Xenon OEM headlights of the other models? If so, what do I need? Just bulbs, or is there a special housing, or do I need to also get a new wiring harness?

The dealership said I needed to get new headlight housings, which are $3000.00 for the set and a new wiring harness. But, as I've learned on these boards, the dealerships are full of sh$t.

that would possibly be the "easiest" way to go...or you could cut/modify your housing to get everything you will need to upgrade...its been done...search for HID instead of XENON...you might have better luck!

A local Z buddy of mine just did this.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to help out as I was out of town but he said he followed something along the same lines as is covered here:https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....threadid=52790

Make sure you get D2R and not D2S bulbs.

Good luck!

You can actually find a H7 HID kit and just slap that in. No modifications needed and looks just fine. Housing for the bulb might be different but the projectors throw out the beam just the same.

HID headlights are actually illegal. Please refer to the "for off road use only" labels. This is why I am asking about upgrading to the OEM Xenon headlights. Does anyone know the answer to my questions or know of a link where the questions have already been answered?

Here is pretty much what you need from Nissan:

Cover - $4.74
HID ballast - $241.96
HID bulb - $172.36
Harness - $17.18
Bracket - $4.06
Total - 440.30 x 2 = $880.60 AT LEAST

If you buy this at the dealership of course it will be more.

Dont listen to all this bs man. Here ya go, I found this for you on ebay. This is the exact kit used on oem 350z's

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT

It comes with everything you need. Plus this kit is new. Although you will still cut a hole in the round plate behind the headlights unless you want to buy one from nissan for $5. Hope this helps.

Yea same everything, upgrading to oem is cheaper than most people think, unless you get your prices from a dealer!

If you do go for it, be sure to write it up for anyone else that might find themselves in your situation...

Its an easy mod with many aftermarket kits available that supply a HID lamp with a base that fits the existing housing, and a seperate box that contains the electronics/igniter. Apart from bing a bit of a pain getting to the lamp covers ( under the wheel arches ) there's no rocket science to it. Took me about 3 hours to do it to the standard I expect ( good wiring, proper mounting etc ).

The reults - great ( should be stock fitting ).

http://www.importhookup.com/ is where most ppl got their after market H7 HID kit for the base model. I bought the 6500k kit and the color is awesome but still not purple enough for the cops to stop me. U will need new housing if u are planning to buy used 350z hid because the base housing is diff than the hid housing that holds the bulb.

My hid compare to acura hid.

I'm about to buy them from motion-r, just wondering if they would match my superwhite led's. I'm trying to get the 6000k--that price can't be beat.

Since I have oem HID's, I'm sure all it is is getting behind the housing and putting this bulb in?

I was told to get D2s bulbs from motion-r. Is this true? or should I stick with D2r?

I am not sure, so could someone tell me what I will need for this to function properly? I have OEM hid's.

I agree. If a cop pulls you over. Tell them it came from the factory. Unless you get pulled over by a cop who is a nissan enthusiast, then you shouldnt have a problem.

Make sure its not over 4k
