Default Rear strut.....

that huge rear strut in the back......

is it needed? has any1 replaced it with a better strut ? or just keep it thier?

... looks like it takes up alot of space

if you watch the best motoring movie with the Z on the cover they take off the plastic cover and show you whats under it... its part of the unibody! its a cool video maybe you should go pick it up

I took a hacksaw to my rear strut frame, which improved ride quality drastically. It seemed to reduce my effective spring rate, so don't get the bounce anymore. My roof buckles a bit on bumps, but that's all, nothing I can't live with...

Ditto. Removing the rear strut was the cure to my B-pillar "dimples." It's not even noticable now.

aerodynamic benefits improve due to better flow thru ventilation. Air enters the cabin easier lowering drag. Heating/AC operate more efficiently without that huge obstruction. And with the B pillars flattenning out there must be a perceivable windnoise reduction, and of course from that it is expected higher top ends will be the result
