Default Seibon TS Carbon Fiber Hood on the way I need help! Have some questions....

OKay again I need advice from the boards!!!

I want to know if I should paint some of the hood..Should I come up with a scheme and paint part of the carbon fiber hood the same as the car which is silverstone.

If some of you photoshop experts can come up with something on a Seibon TS style hood that would be freakin great!! Sorry I do not have a pic yet...

Or do I just leave the hood alone and show the full carbon look..

Ok, one more thing do I need to use the hood pins??? I have read a few threads stating that some guyz have had their hoods fly up at high speeds!! Since I regularly drive at high speed I do not want this to happen to me!!!

Or is there a way to take the stock latch and install it on the new carbon fiber hood??

Thanks People!!

IMO Don't paint the hood...why have carbon fiber if you paint it...that hood is amazing as is... Also hood pins are a must as far as I am concerned... I have Sparco hood pins on mine.

Don't paint the hood. The Seibon CF hood has the same latch the stock hood has.

Hood pins= Insurance

I don't have hood pins on my Seibon hood YET. The hood looks so clean without it but I will install it for safety/insurance reasons.

Where is the good place to get Seibon hoods? Also, what's the price on them?

AFAIK, there were some issues regarding the fitment of the hood. Are they all fixed?

I say leave it CF. I don't have hoodpins on mine yet either, but will add them for safety reasons. Mine seems to latch pretty good though. Just a tip, you'll have to bend the little tips on your stock latch to get the hood to catch...unless they've fixed the issue. Basically the hood sits slightly up too much.

Don't bend anything just loosen the three bolts on the factory latch and slide it up as high as it will go and tighten. Also the hoodpins are a fairly easy DIY if your brave enough to use a dremel on that sweet hood! Leave that hood unpainted it looks so sweet.

depending on where you live, any wet carbon CF hood will turn slight yellow/green over time because of the resin and heat. It doesn't matter if you have X amount of clear coat, U-protected BS. It's the resin that changes the color of the clear coat.

if you plan to leave a portion of the cf exposed and others painted, be sure to keep this in mind.

unless your getting a dry carbon hood then thats a different story.

I'd get the hoodpins just to be safe since you say you do drive at high speeds....

its a shame you have to use hoodpins, because it kinda upsets the nice clean look.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas!

I think I am going to leave it all Carbon Fiber and then see how people react to it... I can always paint it later if i want..

Should I take the stock latch out and just use the hood pins? or use both?

And can you explain the installation of the hood pins for me? I believe one of you guys mentioned something about using a dremel to insatll the hood pins..

If it matter i am using Sparco Hood pins.

No don't remove the latch the hoodpins are just added security. Yeah drilling into my new hood was kinda scary. There was a thread awhile back on the installation of hood pins.

would attach a pic of my painted TS on the Brickyard, but the photo attachment thing is still not working.

Definitely go with hood pins. The Siebon has a standard metal latch hook, but the safety catch is a fiberglass cup. On mine, that wore out pretty quick so only the actual latch was holding the hood. ie... no safety back up at all should the latch fail!

Second, if you decide to paint the hood, I would recommend removing the stock latch mechanism and only using hood pins. The reason is you cannot simply "drop" the Siebon hood and have it latch. You must close it, then put pressure on it above the latch area for it to catch. If you paint the hood, the stress from doing this may eventually cause the paint to crack (it did on mine).

On the Brick, I just didn't think the CF look would fly. On SS, I'd put it on and see if you like it. If not, you can always take it off and paint it. Can't really do it the other way around!

Andy and I got ours at the same time (he got it from us actually). I have a Silverstone and elected to paint it - very happy I did. The weave was awesome, I am just not a carbon fiber sort of guy when it comes to the exterior.

While hood pins would be nice for extra protection, I have still not installed them nor have found the need yet. This hood has been on since ~March, and I have not had a single incident. If I can find some nice low profile pins, I might do them - but was not about to ruin the lines of the car for the bigger bulky Cusco, Sparco types I ahve seen before.

Are these Seibon hood pure carbon fiber, or just overlays. Any idea on the weight of the hood in comparison to stock.

Also, if the carbon fiber does "crack", as in the case with McDuck...is the CF repairable? I dont intend to paint mine, since I think CF on black looks awesome.

to clarify... I don't think the carbor fiber on my hood cracked. I think it was just the paint/clearcoat. I suspect the body shop did not put enough flex agent in the paint... treating it like a standard hood rather than a CF hood.

As for weight... there really is not much weight difference between the Siebon CF hood and the stock aluminum hood. I didn't scale them, but based on picking both up by myself, I'd say they are within 2-3lbs of one another.

The Siebon TS is Carbon Fiber surface with Fiberglass backing.
