The traffic in the "real" forums (350Z, Motorsports, Engine/Drivetrain/FI, Brakes/... just about everything but Off-Topic) more than makes up for the drivel in OT.

Personally, I never visit it and still have the problem that there are so many new posts in the "real" forums that you can't begin to read them all.

Anywhere you go there will be post ****** and useless threads. At least this site isn't known by it's infamous PH threads (where 50% of the sites' total posts are in OT).

You can't read all the post in the "real" forums because there is no way to easily collect that information.

Nearly 40% of currently discussed topics on this board are either off topic or regional. See the sister thread to this here https://my350z.com/forum/feedback-and-suggestions-for-our-forum/165082-filter-for-new-posts-link.html

I hardly ever go in to individual topic section unless I am looking for specific information about that topic. What I normally do is hit the "New Post" button so I can just see any thing active. For the most part, if done every time, I would keep abreast most of the things going on. But when the typical "New Post" returns 400 results, who has time to read all the subject lines.

I am also not saying there should not be an off topic section, if this board wants to support threads about "Should I go after my roommates girlfriend" and "Is GW a total ******" that's fine but at the very least, leave the current "New Post" button as is and make an "On Subject New Post" button with the following topics:

Announcements
350Z
G35
Future Models
Buying/Leasing
Picture Share
Motorsports
Tech Area
Engine, Drivetrain & Forced-Induction
Power and Delivery
Brakes, Suspension, Wheels & Tires
Body, Interior, Exterior & Lighting
Audio, Video & Electronics
Cleaning & Detailing
Repairing

So folks like me who prefer to keep on topic can fine the threads that really matter to us.

While regional is not necessarily off topic, it certainly does not apply to the general population. Regional chatter does not move fast enough to run more than half a page a day so people who are interested in their own region can easily visit those without missing anything.

Just hoping to bring attention to a problem before its to late.

i don't normally hit "new post'. I just go directly to the specific area that i want to check out. For example, i just click to:

Body, Interior, Exterior & Lighting
Brakes, Suspension, Wheels & Tires
Northern California
market place

then so on. I saw your complain thread on other forum and for the fairness, there is nothing much on the other 2 forums either. In addition, you can't really tweak vbulletin to filter out on which forum to display the "new post". So for folk like you, just directly to the area that really matter to you. Problem solve.

I ask Kyle if there is a way to exclude OT from the "New Post" list.

Bubble,

You can't compare the Australian section on tech to the regions here because the Australian post tech stuff in there and they are almost always on topic.

If you are only going into

Body, Interior, Exterior & Lighting
Brakes, Suspension, Wheels & Tires
Northern California
market place

You are missing out on all kinds of 350Z stuff. Maybe that is all that concerns you but it is only a small percentage of the on topic posts on this board.

I noticed you did not circle Mid-Atlantic, and Other Vehicles either.

Chris, I don't circle Other Vehicles and Mid-atlantic because they are not Off-Topic (as your main complain about). As you can see, you see Australia as important and i don't (mostly APS stuff?) and since i'm not going to F/I yet, i don't really care about it. Your orginal complain was Off Topic thread and depend on the time you come in, the new thread will be different (like you just capture something else)

I don't think i miss out anything about 350Z. My car come to the point that they just need a SC or TT then it's complete (IMO) SO if i need more info about F/I, i just go to F/I and read or ask question. I don't count on "new thread" to learn.

These are replies to your thread at other forum and you think it is more productive? bashing, calling name will give you better info about 350Z?

it really come down to one main point, this is not our private forum so we can't control it. We have a choice. If we don't like certain thing here, we can go else where but puting complain thread to bash this forum on the other forum (or the other way around) is immature.

Is this more forum war nonsense?

-Jon (doesn't think off-topic forums should count at all in any database functions but come on...)

No, my350z.com is big, no question, unfortunately is has gotten so big that primary focus of the forum is getting more difficult to do. I was just hoping something might be done to make it easier to view on topic stuff.

All other sites have off topic but because they are so much smaller, this has not become an issue for them. If people start to become frustrated here and move on to other sites, they will suffer the same fate if there is no solution.

If it is impossible to make a search that can use "New Post" as a variable than I understand, it is just a little sad because my350z.com has a lot to offer.

Bubble, if you never go to any other topics, how did you find this thread?
The two of us are entirely different users, I come here not only to learn but to try and help other. Just like when I went to your house and installed your plenum spacer for you, it is just the type of guy I am.

I am interested in all things 350Z, not just one part.

It can't be that hard to filter new posts can it? hyper has a legitimate question IMO. I know they will be stuff I'm not interested in, but do I have to see it too?
Interesting...

chris,

I still remember you went to my place and help me to install the spacer. How can i forget that? I respect you for your knowledge and generousity

However, the reason i respond back to this thread because you're asking for something that nearly impossible to do because as you said, we are two different users and you might find something helpful while i don't; so filter out certain thing because you don't like while 57,286 members here might like. In addition, posting at another forum that give people a chance to bash, calling name is not a cool thing to do.

So why let this very small percent of OT thread bother you? just go to the area that you think will help you then enjoy your time. After all, this is just the internet. Don't take it too serious.

That's has got to be the most uninformed response ever. That other board has 210,468 total posts, of which 95,864 are in The Lounge, that's 46%.
On MY350Z, there are 1,909,303 total posts of which 421,586 are in OT, or only 22%. I think your statement about the ratio of 350Z to non-350Z related posts is a little confused.

Again, I'm not sure where you're getting your math from but OT (421,586) plus Regions (191,141) is 612,727 of the 1,909,303 total posts for a whopping 32%, not 40%.
