Question A Seriuos Vote for the entire forum

This is a poll to determine if we need the "points" system.

Everyone is encouraged to participate.

The points seem to alienate siome and cause others to start contoversial topics about games and movies and crap to boister their points.

I think our start date is good enough, that way we all are equal in knowledge.

For example, someone could be lurking here for 6 months having made only 1 post and knows more about Z's then I could ever wish for!

But when he posts people say ahhh only a one point person poor guy/girl I'll read him later!

Most forums use just the start date and posts but even post counts get out of hand when you make 10 posts a day like

1. Am I cool
2. Did I mention I was cool today?

Ya Know, Ya Feel, Ya Heard?

Then again it gives people reasons to make credible posts and join in.

Like Junior Mmber for 50 posts then Senior Mmeber for 1000 posts that's how most forums do it.

In it's current state the point system is useless.

That's my nickle. Like it hate eat, whatever....

The points system needs to stay until I get ~1700 more points for my glow name. lol I'm SO close and I was robbed when the cost went from 10k to 20k! I was at 9k just before they changed it last time. PLEASE don't rob me now! lol

I've never really understood the point system. I see people on here with 50 posts and 8000 or so points. I think that if your going to have a points system you need to have a use for it.

In some of the other forums I go to, they go by post and give you a new title every time you hit so many posts.

Who knows what’s the best way to do it, I do like the points system if it is fair and can be used for something other than a glowing name at 20000 points.

Well, this is a topic I've asked to the new admin, Mike. He said that he also doesn't like the point system and that it takes a lot to remove it, therefore it hasn't been removed yet. So just give us time and I'm sure the point system will be taken away.

I think the point system is worthless and only encourages post-whoring. But there's no longer to beat on this dead horse.

Since the system is there, I'll like cash in my points to change my username.

the points mean absolutely nothing to me...this is a great forum with alot people who know alot of things about cars...number of points does not reflect that...i say it goes

actually i never even bothered to find out what the points meant until a few recent topics about it came up.

im here to talk about cars, not try to rack up worthless internet points.. that kinda sounds nerdy

I think points are stupid, they do mean something, but if they are abused they quickly mean nothing(starting threads about controversial topics that just rack up the replies)

if I had my way, points would be gone, offtopic posts wouldnt count towards post count. meaning that if you dont post about something car related itll be moved to offtopic and you cant post *****.

and lastly the names will be set with high post counts, for example another forum uses 9 different names with the last one coming at 3000posts. not too many people are there yet. a system where increasing amounts of posts are something, not where the highest name is at 400posts so everyone has it.

and lastly, when you reach the top name with 3000 posts, you would then get a glow name.

thats MY proposal on it.

Buying your way out of abuse doesn't jive with me either.

I abuse all the way to a red card then buy my way out?

Other forums issue warnings then temporsary read only for 1 week then if bevaior changes put them back if it worsens temporary ban if he's a troll permenant ban!

Just some ideas.

I don't think anything is ever going to be changed, but the best solution is to change the point system so that people ONLY get +1 or -2 when their posts are rated. There will be no more "free points" awarded by possibly just creating havoc.

The reason it won't change is that havoc increases page hits, and that means more ads are shown. Of course, no more products get sold, but the illusion is there. Another reason is that nobody cares enough to make the change.

Default Cash & Prizes

If I can't use the points to collect cash or prizes I really could care less one way or the other. I have enough common sense to know who's post hold wieght or who's just full of it.

Default Signal to noise problem

I think the point system contributes to the ever-decreasing signal to noise ratio of the site. Posting even silly crap is rewarded with points. You get what you reward people for.

The number of posts per day has gotten SO high that some days I just don't bother. It seems more and more posts are "panties or thongs", "favorite **** star" etc. Sometimes it is hard to find the usefull info.

One feature I would use would be if there was a way to ignore off-topic posts when checking for new posts since last visit. I mostly come here to learn about the Z. If I want idle chatter I will hang out with my friends.

This is not a flame, just an opinion.
