Same here, only see top of the letters going by with a scroll bar underneath.

OIC, the scrolling text is resolution dependent. 800x600 will have problems, whereas flat screen and laptop monitors will readily (easily) view the text properly (with 1024x768).

Great. Another semi-useless feature to slow down an already slow site.

Not a fan of the ticker.

At least please add a control so users can turn it off.

That's a blip on the server process radar... I bet it might hinder the site load by .000000000001 of a second depending on how nice of a computer you have.

800 x 600 here. Scroll bars. But its wierd. It's a horizontal sroll bar, even though I can barely make out the scrolling text.

Oh OK. I changed my screen resolution from 800 X 600 (old eyes here) to the tiny 1024 X 768 and THERE IT IS!!!

Mike-
Not trying to give you a hard time, but it's not text. Scroll bars like that are essentially perceived as a graphic to the browser, which does slow down a site.

Also, 800x600 is still the most common resolution for web browsing, so anything you do shoudl be geared to that resolution.

Exactly what I was thinking... it must go.

I am not trying to sound rude, but the only sites I've seen with a ticker implemented in the same fashion are sites by first-time web designers with no previous experience in functional web design. There are books (and ironically, sites) dedicated to what works and what doesn't... IMO, this doesn't flow with the rest of the site. Not sure who implemented it, but [insert name here], if this is to serve some future purpose, try it out on a personal site before putting it into a production environment.

Respectfully,

iboost
