I was having the same problem with Mozilla Firefox after the latest upgrade. I switched to Google Chrome & haven't had the issue since.

If you're missing the Smilies/avatars, you may have a security software that is blocking the content or mostly the domain. The smilies are served from http://images.ibsrv.net/

 

I think its an issue with this account on my laptop. I have 2 accounts. Administrator and Guest. I usually log in Guest because I dont feel like adding my pw to the other. So I think I may be able to dig into it and find out. I did install the new mozilla on guest so maybe I will go from there.
