Default Dead horse, my350z.com speed!

I like this forum, definitely the most informative, best categories, etc. but what's the deal with the speed?

The forum doesn't work right or runs seriously slow 75% of the time I view it, and it's always been like this as far as I know since the first owner left.

I mean you have all these advertisers, that can't buy a server upgrade?
Just put up a PayPal button and take donations to get some new hardware, software, or whatever it takes.... I'd donate!
(You can get a dual Xeon huge bandwidth server for $99 now!)

I view sites with a 100x more users everyday and they run great!

Anyway, what's the next best forum? I don't know if I can take this anymore. So far 350zmotoring.com is the best replacement found, but it really doesn't have the same amount of info as this site. Any other suggestions?

As a site owner who's revenue is generated by the display and utilization of banner ads, here's how you think:

"Have forum members decided to throw in the towel and go elsewhere yet? No? Then don't spend money to buy faster hardware, more bandwidth or optimized software to fix something that isn't affecting my revenue stream.

Find one post on this site where somebody says, "that's it, this site is too slow, so this is my last post. I'm going elsewhere." There aren't any and the owner knows it.

What he's saying....if the site owner took donations for an upgraded server that's actually fast, I think he'd get enough donations to take care of it.

Yes, I am making what I consider a logical suggestion to go with the rant.

I was trying to make the point that servers are not expensive anymore. Also, I'm sure there's a user on here technically adept enough to streamline the data.

I don't want to, but I can honestly say I will throw in the towel soon.

i am not going anywhere but i come here much less frequently.

partly because I am honestly getting a bit bored with it and also because I HATE the lousy lag time every time I want to change to a different thread.

my opinion is that if he did a server upgrade he would have MORE members then now because the site would not be so slow, (which turns people off) THEN he could charge more for advertising and make more profit!

think about it......

I agree this site is SUPER SLOW by far the slowest site out there that I'm a member of....

BUT one of the things I see that slows things down is my350Z does host pictures and not just 1-2-3 pictures but hundreds of them I think if my350Z stoped hosting pictures for random posters and made all the members host their own pictures that would speed things up a good bit

Also another thing that IMO is more so an eye sore rather then a slowing down problem is people with really big sigs + pictures in their sigs

do I really want to see the same picture of somoenes banner/car 5 times in one post they are replying to?

I think the best and fastest way to make this site faster is simple SUPER simple

look at the bottom of this page do you see the Vortech ad? what about the Say good bye to was today ad? CLICK THEM! and click them every day!

thats how this site makes money and how this site will oneday BUY new faster servers

i remember g35driver.com was really slow and i was getting tired of it, but i think it got an upgrade and it's pretty fast now. more enjoyable.

sometimes when i'm on this forum and it lags, i tend to just close the window. but thats when it REALLY lags.

and some ppl have super long signatures that list their every single mods VERTICALLY and it takes up at least half the page.
i duno why this site doesnt have a signature guideline.

I gotta agree cutting the hell down on the sigs would do wonders for this site I think. If he could limit th sig to only appearing once per thread that would work great.

Default slow

I have to admit that I come here far less often as I have grown weary of waiting for slow downloads or finding the site doa.

I have been going over to 350zmotoring a lot more these days. The site is snappy and the memmbership and quality is growing.

This site may be #1 right now, but that can change quick if the managment of this site get complacent and stops trying.

The problem does not lie in signatures, number of posts, number of members, etc... space is not a factor.

The problem is that we are running on 1 server which is a very bad idea for vBulletin.

Most people run at least 2 or more for efficiency.

The database portion of the forum should be on seperate servers from the website portion. When both are loaded on 1 server, it takes up too many resources thus slowing the site down. And adding the amount of load that we have makes it even worse.

Currently I am working with the site owner to get another server, but it will take some time (maybe 2~3 months) to obtain it.

I ask everyone to bear with us. I know it's hard since the site has been like this forever. If you really can't stand it then there are the other 350Z forums.

Victor

BTW, if you check out the Gallery part of the website...
https://my350z.com/gallery/my350z
you'll notice that it loads pretty quick like normal sites. That's because it isn't loading any database. So the resources aren't taken up.

I appreciate You doing what you can to get this done. What I dont appreciate is a Site owner who doesnt give a S*** about his own Site. To top it off, Im sure based on the Cars he owns, he doesnt really NEED the money he makes from this site and US, but it all accumulates...This is a simple fix he can definitely Afford, and ultimately, it will benefit HIM more than it will Us. IMO

"dont S**t where you eat" comes to mind for some reason....

EDIT..MAYBE Im jumping the gun and making (what could be) false assumptions. In that unlikelyhood, I'll gladly swallow my words, But I dont think it's the case.

He may not have much input on the site, but I know he does care otherwise he wouldn't have offered the new server to me.

Mike,

It's great news to hear the owner is offering the servers to make this site like it once was... but WHY is it taking sooOOO long?
