Default WTF could it be? Need help!

About a week ago my car started to bog around 4500rpm all the way to 5000rpm. Now it has the bog and is hiccuping from 5000 to 6200rpm. My rev limiter is set at 7200 and the car won't go to it. There is a small misfire at idle but nothing that noticeable under 4500rpm or at medium throttle. There is a great difference in performance (slow as h**l). Last night I drove it hard and it backfired at 6000rpm and a large puff of rich unburned gas puffed out the exhaust. I don't see any smoke while driving and no oil burn off. Could it be a fowled plug? It seems to be getting worse everyday. Also my MAS sensor has a frayed wire, could this be a problem? Need help and this is pis*ing me off. Thanks for the support.

Did you get a code light on the dash ? Sounds like it can be alot of things . Start with fixing the frayed wire . Then take it in to the dealer and have them hook up OBD . That will tell them right away where to look

I haven't gotten a CEL yet. The plugs only have 1000 miles on them. I hope it just the wire.

It is one of the wires that connect to the MAP sensor. It was frayed from rubbing against the engine when I had a CAI . I hope this is it.

It sounds like its either a problem with your MAF sensor wires as you said or possibly one or several spark plugs. I had a similar problem before I went F/I. My car was sputtering at idle and cruise and completely struggled and back fired when I accelerated. It ended up the one of my spark plug coils came unplugged after I installed new plugs. Plugged it back in and was fine.
If plugs are the problem, its an easy fix,but may be an indicator of other problems... If its the MAF wire, fixing it should be relatively easy, but too much driving under the current conditions could cause your car to default to limp mode. It will idle and run really rich and not rev over 4500rpm. This is what happened to me on the dyno after I installed my Vortech.
Good luck!

I would say that is maybe in the ignition system....My pops had a contour that had a missfire at idle but would go away under engine load.....We replaced the coil pack and it was fixed...If your mass air was not working your motor will not rev at all it is a failsafe in the computer...Fix the wire check all the connections and maybe this will help...

I am having this same exact problem right now too. Its been going on for almost a month now. My shop and i have had it on the dyno about 8 times trying to figure it out. I wont rev past 4500-5000 on the dyno or on the street. We thought it might be a bad R4 box so we sent it back to split second to get it checked out. Any ideas on what else to check? Maybe i have the same problem with the MAF sensor?

I sodered the wire back together and reset the ECU (by unplugging it for about 2hrs). This work for about a day when it started doing it again but not as bad. The wire came apart again and is being held on by 1 little thread. The dealership is going to repin the adapter since the wire is to close to the adapter to splice or soder. Once I get it back from the dealership I'm going to replace plugs. I hope this is all that is wrong. Thanks for your support.
