Default Crank/accessory pullies OK with Vortech?

While saving up for the Vortech supercharger, I'd like to pick up complementing mods for my future Supercharger.

Will the whole pulley set work perfectly fine when the supercharger is installed?

Will I need different belts than the ones supplied with the Vortech?

Will there be any detrimental issues in the long run with the combo?

If you are referring to the Unorthodox Racing (or other underdrive pulleys), then you do not want to swap the crank pulley.

Underdrive crank pulleys have a smaller diameter (hence the description underdrive). Putting a smaller diameter crank pulley on your SC-ed car will result in the supercharger spinning slower, thus producing less boost.

Accessory pulley swaps should be fine.

ASPracing is an awesome place . . . I had the owner design the 3G eclipse crank pulley since UR pulled out of the 3G market (long horror stories) . . . The pullies are great quality and created with minute tolerances. Highly recommended and with a mere reduction in weight, it should not negatively affect your SC setup.

I am with you on that!!! Maybe we should start a thread and see if we can get enough interest to get some folks to go in on getting a machine shop to make one...PM me if interested and we can see what we can come up with.

I contacted ASP and they are making one for me as we speak. They have the stats on the stock unit and will make one out of aluminum. They stated I should have it in about 3 weeks. It was about 135.00. Can't wait to get it. I will give a reveiw upon delivery. Thanks

Interesting...I know someone with a blown engine and a Vortech install running an Unorthodox undersized pulley.

Are you worried about upsetting the engine balance (or something like that)?

I also wonder if the lighter pulley woould not help counteract the parasitic lost of running the supercharger. Anyone has any thoughts on this?

ktown, as part of your review, I hope you can weigh the stock and new pullies to show the weight savings.

Hey ktown z - did this work out for you? Would you recommend this mod?

I was quoted 135.00 from Lee at ASP. What ASP charges I don't know. He said it is a custom part but he can make them fairly easily.

Default Which Belt??

K - Do U or anyone else know what belt ( Gates or otherwise ) will work with the lightweight ASP crank pulley mated with the 2 other UR pullies? I just ordered my ASP pulley from Lee ( he said $135 + S&H ) & I figure that the OEM belt is too long since I have the UR pullies on my alternator & idler arm. Conversely, using the belt provided with all 3 smaller UR crank pullies would figure to be too short. Any guesses??

Well I put the pulley on and it went on with no problems and used the regular belts that came with the procharger (same diameter pulley as stock). It weighed in at a little less than four pounds. I don't know how much the stock unit weighs but many forum members have posted the weight in earlier posts. Well, I can't say anything about performance because the but dyno may lie. The engine does rev quicker and it seems the engine idles easier (less drops below 500 rpms). I'm going to the track tomarrow and will post times and trap speeds. Hope this helps!
James

Mean Gene- I believe that the other unorthodox pulleys, besides the crank pulley, are stock size. If this is true the current belts that are on your car should work. You could call unorthodox and confirm the size but it doesn't make sense to make the accessory pulleys smaller. James

Anyone know how much boost lost if I run the UR crank pulley with the 2.87 pulley? I'm just afraid I might not be able to take the UR off and my only option then is to run the 2.87 pulley and hope to get the same hp as a 3.12 pulley without ur crank pulley.
