so is there some kind of cool initiation? card? handshake?

no "I told you so's" please...my forged internals are on there way as of last week, i should have ordered sooner...tonight, driving along, second gear, 4500rpm, horrid sound...(sounded like a belt broke and was slapping against metal)
i instantly rolled to a stop, got out, popped the hood...smoke galore...coolant spilling out the bottom...

so what does every guy with a twin turboed z do when they blow their motor (this is really becoming obnoxious how common this is)...I called for a flatbed, then consoled with gq_626 on the phone (thanks BTW gq!)...either a hole in the ol blocko' or blown head gasket...

my gameplan:
since my parts won't be here until mid Jan...i'll continue to build my arsinal : clutch/flywheel, plenum...

and I'll have my car towed over to my shop first oj jan...so they can pull the motor and let me know if the block has gone bye bye...if anyone knows of a block for sale...please let me know...i may be in the market for one soon.

so, please, send flowers, send cards...tell me it's gonna be ok....

another Z down for now RIP

(will be back mid feb w/ 550hp to the wheels, better than ever!)

Sorry to hear that bro. How much boost were you running (Is it different than your 9lb sig)? Whp?

If anyone needs an engine with less than 3K miles on it, I know Greg @ Injected Performance will be pulling his shortly since he has a built motor in the works (just waiting on a part or two).

350g:

i greg willing to sell the block only or is he looking to sell the entire engine

BTW: what is the website used to find used blocks again???

i was running 8-8.5 lbs at 5500 ft, prolly the equivalant of 6.5 lbs at sea level... rwhp prolly actual around 370rwhp (dynoed here at 465 w/ 9-9.5 lbs...i turned down the boost a little, so i estimate i was running 8-8.5...the boost sensor on the e-01 is not accurate for this altitude (or it was installed wrong)--that's what my tuner told me...so it registered like 7lbs of boost when it was actually (confirmed with a mechanical boost guage) making 9.0-9.5lbs..

ANY info is appreciated!

Hmmm... that's a good question. He's not actively trying to sell any of it, but I know he doesn't have any plans on keeping it Drop him a pm at injected performance . . . he should be back in town tomorrow. You never know, he may just part it out . . .

Obviosuly this sucks....just trying to make you smile a bit....since what is done is done.

Call me if you need anything.

#1: Would you do it all over again (FI) after knowing what you know and experiencing what you have?

#2: IF you were going to do it all over again, list what products you would use and what you would do different.

I am interested in hearing considering experience makes an excellent teacher.

zland:

i could tell you:

at this point if i were to do it all over again, i wouldl have built the motor w/ forged internals at the same time...i waited over 2 weeks to get the tt installed anyway...should have dumped another 4-5k, waited another week and avoided my current situation
\...well coulda woulda shoulda...i've still enjoyed my car very much the past few months...

sorry to hear of your lost.

why does it seem that greddy TT kits are blowing alot of motors. i know that gurgenpb01's motor blew with a PE kit. i may be wrong but, that's how it seems to me.

it's easy to say, "don't let it stress you" but, only those with or had blown motors really know how you feel. so i'll say good luck with your new install and hope all goes well.

Z land...

Ok, here it is (in short):

#1. Given what the costs came out to be, I would not do it again. BUT, I know that the costs could have ebeen SIGNIFICANTLY less if I were to do it the right way... So, the answer..... YES I would. The thrill of the ponies that only FI can give you simply cannot be replaced.

#2. If it happend the same way, I.e. if I had blown my motor before the rebuild, I would have bought a brand new block and gotten the stock size pistons (i will let you guess if I would use the same brand or not...). this would SAVE a lot of machining cost. The only thing that would have to be sent out is the crank assembly to a balancing shop (and that costs relatively little money - under 500 i think). I would do Pouter rods and use the stock heads with a standard valve job. this last part may change if in fact my torque curve looks crappy on a dyn...this remains to be seen. in this case, I would definitely do a custom grind or mild high lift/duration and no overlap cams to open things up. Again, this may not be necessary at the end.

Ask me this question again in about two weeks after the car is broken in and tuned.

Damn man, I'm sorry to hear that. Are you saying that your block has a hole in it? Or you aren't sure yet?

You know the scary thing is when I saw your sig yesterday and saw the 9psi, I said to myself: "I sure hope he makes it to his rebuild." I wish I had said something, but didn't want to sound like I was hating. I'm wondering if I should say something to spazpilot...

the car was running at 8.5 psi... again, remember, theoretically, being at 5500 ft altitude, that would create a similar cylinder pressure as 6-6.5 psi at sea level...so i don't feel i was pushing it that much!

thanks for the flowers guys

Jason, you should order your FI stuff just in case. At least order rods and Main/head studs. Those are the toughest parts to find and the pistons are a little eaisier to find.
