Flywheel & FI - Quite possibly the dumbest question I have ever asked
Getting ready to upgrade my clutch and flywheel and I'm going with the light weight JUN flywheel.
Will the quicker revability of the motor affect my Vortech boost tune in any way?
I mean, right now, if I'm in neutral and rev the motor to 5-6K, its going to wind and build boost way faster than I will be able to running the lighter weight flywheel under load, right?
Not saying I won't ever retune, but it would be a pisser if I had to go retune immediately just because of the flywheel change.

Interesting question..Logic would indicate that you should build up boost sooner. With a reduction of rotating mass that's been robbing you of available torque the engine load is less allowing quicker boost buildup..Can't imagine a retune would be required or would provide any significant gains. However my logic and reality are not always consistent. Interested in what others believe..
I agree, it would seem logically the boost would come on sooner, but I guess my question is whether it would be moreso than just sitting in neutral and revving the motor... that, IMO, is the quickest you can possibly rev.

You will accelerate faster and in time you will match the new quickness with a reduced pedal to the metal to give you the response you now have at higher boost levels except of course if you want to take advantage of the additional torque and go like a bat out of hell. A lower level of boost results in lower rpm. If you want to maintain your present boost levels it seems you will rev at higher rpm's and go faster than your present set up. .. Making any sense?
FWIW, with the gutted RT cats, stock flywheel and the stock pulley my max boost was 7.1lbs. With the 3.12 pulley and Nismo flywheel, I now make 9.4lbs. Could the 2.3lbs be all pulley??? Maybe... Has anyone else seen 2lbs or more from just going to the 3.12??? I think the flywheel did increase boost in my situation.
BTW Andy, I really like the ACT street clutch and Nismo flywheel combo. However, I might go with a lighter flywheel if I had it to do it all again. I can tell that the engine revs quicker and more freely, but I'm not sure it is going to be all that much better for the track than the stock combo...

doesn't the boost depend on the rpm's, if so it would just go through the rpm's quicker i.e. boost comes on quicker but still at the same rpms....all things the same besides the addition of a light weight flywheel... right?

You will not have to retune. If you car revs faster, the boost will bulid faster, and you fuel and timing will enrich and retard faster. It is all a linear process....everything will be the same in terms of tune....things will just happen a lot faster.

luanda... was the JUN already on your car when the SCed? My question was toward adding the lighter flywheel after already being boosted.
enthuzd... I know of at least one other person who saw a similar boost gain out of just upgrading the pulley to the 3.12".... so I think 2-2.5lb gain is status quo for that mod.

It sounds like it will meet all my needs (handle my power, still mostly streetable, correct price) and I am going to be able to get it quickly because gq_626 has one he has decided not to put on his car because he will be building it even stronger soon!

Cool..I think you meant CM III clutch. I didnt know they made pulleys too!
