Default 04 G35 Twin Turbo BLOWN stock boost

I went for a few test runs in the rain tonight just started up the ride it was going really good at first until the the last run home we lost traction while boosting and blew up. pushed it home 3 blocks, looked underneath oil/coolant everywhere. found a hole in the side. Now figuring out my options I've seen the stroker and SGP is there any other?

Z1 Motorsports also has engines.

Sorry to hear your loss, specially since you didn't get to enjoy it.

first off, i FEEL your pain, i'm sorry to hear that!!! i know EXACTLY how you feel.... you just installed this kit too!?

the only encouraging thing i can really say is that several of us are rebuilding our engines NOW, so there is a HUGE resource for knowing exactly what parts are needed to make the rebuild go smoothly and quickly!

my suggestions for you now:
pull motor, determine whether there is any head damage:

contact jim @ turbo toys for a block (or longblock if head damage determined)
turbo_toys@hotmail.com
813-695-6664

order arp main and head studs immediately (my extensive research shows that the first place to get them in is competitionwarehouseusa.com talk to lenny...they will have a shipment in next week or the following

contact sharif (gq_626) and see how soon you can get the pauter rods (if that's what you want to go with)..they are still in production, to be done in a few weeks..., or is you want carrillo rods, i MAY be selling mine soon
contact arias...if they have standard 8.6:1 compression pistons on the shelf you can get those immediately, or sustom CR is gonna take longer
Sales@Ariaspistons.com

Most other parts come in pretty quick, if you already know all of this info, GREAT, if you are in shock and scrambling like I was.... i'll be happy to talk to you and try to point you in the "RIGHT" direction (as i have learned over the past month)

like, I said, several others have blown their motors, so I am just one of the resources, but I'll be happy to try to help, it's the least I can do for all those who helped me so much!

let me know if you need anything!

from nissan:
order gasket overhaul kit (should fin ndit for under $190)
new oil pump -$under $200)(as your oil pump now has debris in it and will likely clog up)

also!!! you may want to
ONLY order a block, I may have a head for sale if you need one...for cheap!...i will have lots of leftover parts...after my rebuild which will pretty much be in the aggressive stage next week!

i', not sure how many parts are directly interchangeable form a z to a g35...but i'm guessing most of the engine parts from a z will work just fine...anyone else who knows better, pls chime in!

i was from the westcoast as well...los angeles..now im in new mexico, so a lot less shops out here...this rebuild project has been coordinated 100% by ME, i couldnt just bring my car in and say "this is what i want done"...instead, i did the research, bought all the parts...typed up a list (i know i'm obsessive compulsive)..and presented it to the shop so that they would have an easier, smoother time with the project, pm me with your e-mail, i'll send you all the info and lists that i've compiled!

Dang...Sorry to hear this...Any feedback on the cause yet with such a "young" installation? What was your boost, A/F, etc. Were you pulling timing as necessary, etc?

Good luck with the build! I'm sure it'll be nice to have a nice, strong, F/I ready motor.

the install was fine, I didn't address timing yet, and didn't have a boost gauge or A/F gauge, I was just going on a test run. It was raining so my tires were spinning a bit. I can't wait to get it back on the road when I was running it felt wicked!

Sorry to hear about the loss. You didn't even have time to enjoy your new toy....

Since it was raining, and there was a traction issue, I am sure your rpm's were flying up VERY quickly. Any chance you bumped off the rev limiter? This may not have caused the failure, but the timing advance at redline, and the throttle not opening 100% at redline could both be contributing factors. Were you running stock boost or did you have a boost controller to up the boost?

So you over revved it you think? The stock rev limiter doesnt always kick in on time, this is especially true when your FI because the engine revs so much faster now.

Yes the RPS were flying quick, I had VDC off like normal just wasn't used to this crazy turbo action. I wasn't at 100% throttle, at stock boost, didn't get to install that yet, you can see I didn't even have the bumper on

Yeah the stock rev limiter can be a little slow with a TT. And we all know these rods cannot be over revved, especially without a tune. The contributing factors to blown motors have been timing and a lean condition. On the base map for the Greddy though, I thought it was overly rich, so I doubt this was the issue.

I agree, you have to be careful reaching the limiter, my e01 has a peak recorded of 7000, not sure when it happened but I stare at it every day.

right, well on my next test run I'll be sure to have boost and a/f and timing harness, probably fuel pump and upgrade it so it won't blow so easily.

That is very bad news. SOrry to hear about ur loss. Im thinking u got a boost spike since u didnt have a boost gauge to tell u otherwise. Also u say it was raining so im assuming the weather was cold. When the weather is cold my car tends to boost a little higher than usual. Usually around the 6-7psi range. One cold night a punched it in 3rd and got a booost spike of 7.5 psi. This happened 3 times within the same run.

If u want to build up ur engine then my suggestoin would be to competely ship ur entire car to SGP. From what i hear they do excellent work. THat way they can rebuild ur engine and tune it without having to worry who else will tune ur car. I know someone who will be doing that since he also did some engine damage with his TT.

Where at do you live? I know Altered Atmosphere does good tuning. That will be were I am taking my car. They are a HKS dealer also so you could always pick up a F-CON from them. They say they are pretty easy to tune with. I am going to buy a bottom end through and send it off to SGP through and get the Ultimate Short Block deal they offer. It comes with everything you will need to make a rock soild bottom end.
