Default Nismo cams with TT set-up

What is the consensus about using the Nismo cams with FI. They are quite similar to the Tomei 264's but will they benefit a TT motor with port and polished heads.....or hinder it??

Nismo cams are not a good choice for FI, they are more for NA Z's. JWT are a better blend for FI.

My deal on cams is that unless you plan on building in 600+rwhp. I would just not even worry about cams and mess up the idle. You can easly make 550 to 600 on a stock head. If you just want one on the other hand for sound etc. all the cams are build for NA application but the nismo would work just as well as the JWT. There was a guy on 350frenzy that ran it on a build motor. No Problems !!

JWT and Nismo specs are almost identical

WOW, no criticism but only 12.2 with 12 pounds and NOS? Traction problems?

I friend did 12.5 with just 7 pounds of boost on a Greddy Kit.

Sorry to hijack thread.

g356gear...

Don't listen to lovetoclown or spazpilot... they don't have a clue on this. Don't take advice from people who haven't done it.

I'm running the Nismo cams with my Vortech. Average horsepower numbers for Vortech Z with my mods (minus cams) is around 375rwhp. My dyno shows I've been running 400+rwhp and have a peak run of 425rwhp.

A mild cam is a huge difference on an FI car. What you don't want to do is put a very aggressive cam made for NA your car with FI (like the hairier Tomei grinds). These will be at odds with the FI and will cause you problems.

I think you would be fine with any of the milder cams... the Nismo, JWTs, or least agressive Tomeis. My personal choice was the Nismo because they were the best available at the time. If I did it again now, I'd probably go with the JWTs.

yeah lots of people run mild cams with FI

that's why I got the JWT.

Otherwise if I was going to stay NA forever, I would have gotten a way more aggressive cam

the JWT and nismo are practically the same though from everything I've read. The JWT has just a slightly more tilted curve with less torque then stock down low and higher peak hp up high compared to nismo.

The nismo are way easier to install from what I understand

mcduck:

I didn't tell him its a bad idea but if he wants to save the money on a turbo car you could just up the boost from 15psi for instance to 18psi and would run about the same numbers as one with cams and 15psi. In your case its alot harder to up the boost compared to a turbo. My car at 9.5psi ran 433rwhp with no cams. Do they make a difference? yes (had them on my DSM). Will I run them on my 350z with my build up? No!! I will be losing enough bottom end with the lower compression and will be aiming for 550rwhp at 18psi. It is all in what you are looking for. just my .02
