HIGH HP VQ's
Sorry guys, I didn't make it down last week. I was too busy getting ready for Tuner War and my rods didn’t show yet, hopefully they be here tomorrow and I’ll head down and take some pics.
The Darton MID sleeves was NOT what PM was making 1400+ hp on - it was just Darton liners on the opened VQ deck. One thing that you need to consider is PM is only running the car for a whopping 30-60 seconds at a time...
Charlie down at the machine shop, Weston, that's done all their work to date - strongly suggestion just liners for 500-550hp... Anything over that, full sleeves are the call. He's done dozens of VQ blocks already and in several different forms, AEBS, Darton MID, Darton liners, and some other crazy custom stuff that you'll see some pro cars running soon.
I went with the Darton MID sleeves for three reasons, they were available and I didn't need to wait six weeks, Weston claims that for everyday driving they offered the best cooling, and we are surely going to push a lot more than 600whp.
Pics tomorrow if my rods come in, promise.
A little sample of yesterdays Tuner War show.

Thanks for the info.
When you say interesting things...do you mean something like pinning the block/sleeves?
So Darton M.I.D. sleeves would be better than liners for daily driving?
Oh yeah, nice pic.

I know there is alot of "pros" when sleeving your block but are there any "cons" besides price? Does it wear the piston skirts quicker for examle?

I think all the cons are attributed to the installation involved. The machinist installing the new sleeves must have the right tools and be experienced. If the install went perfectly, that would be one tuff engine block. Other then that, a closed deck doesnt cool as well around the head gaskets as an open deck.

Damn shipper for my rods put the wrong city in, and now I will not be receiving them until tomorrow...
I'll try and leave work a bit early tomorrow and head down to Westons, if not it will not be until weeks end.
