Default Got My Bill $$$ For The Aps Install

I got the bill for the APS install and need some feed back on what the rest of you APS guys and gals are paying.

$7032.20

This includes installing pistons and rods. I provided all the parts pistons, rods, APS kit etc. this figure is just for the work to install it.

Let me know your thoughts. Is it fair?

Thanks Jeff

UPDATE: The $7032.20 is untuned. Tuning is extra.

Anybody with some input?

WOW! I didn't get any pistons or rods installed but you're saying that this is purely for LABOR?

I had my ATI Procharger installed at AAM and it cost about $1000.00 (just labor).

That looks to be a couple grand high for a basic build and TT kit install Did they give you an hourly breakdown on your bill for labour for the tt install and the labour for the build. I would insist on that and then go from there.

No hourly breakdown but they did itemize each thing they did with a price (3 pages long). The best I can make of it is the piston and rod install is $1725.00 and the APS install (without tuning) is $5307.20.

Sounds to me like your getting ripped off, over 5K for a turbo install is outrageous. Id assume most Greddy kits are around $1500 installed?

Did you buy the rods and pistons from them?
Rods-$1200
Pistons-$1000
Head studs-$400
Gasket kit-$300
Turbo install-$2000-3000 aprox
Labor to build the motor- $1700-2500

So NO your not getting ripped off, your getting ALOT of work done, before you go flaming them make sure you know what you paid for and to tell you the truth I can not believe ANYONE would go into such a project without at least an idea of what the final price would cost them..So if this $7000 you speak of includes the pars for the motor then your right on point..

Oh my..My bad I see you provided all the parts to them for the bottom end..No your definitely getting jacked up a bit..Like for the tune of $2000...We would charge the following
Motor rebuild-$2000
Install TT kit and motor-$3000
So we would be in the $5000 range on labor..

There are really good numbers here, but it the are also machining costs for boreing cylinders and balancing.

I think pulling a motor, rebuild, installing TTs, and replacing motor could quickly get you to 5000-6000.

But the question still remains is, what about the

Head/main studs..450
Overhaul gasket kit..180
Rear main Seal...45
NGK plugs...75
Gauges???
TAXES???

Could you provide us with a parts list that was charged?

Two shops in my area that have experience with installing APS kits (along with many other F.I. kits for our Z) have both quoted $ 3000. So are you saying that the install is already completed or that is what the estimate was from this particular shop? Sounds like this shop bumped their head when they came up with this number

Yeah, can you clarify something?

If this shop removed your engine, rebulit it with the forged parts you supplied, and then installed the APS kit, reinstalled your engine, and charged you for the gaskets, bearings, and all the misc crap you need to put the engine back together, then the price doesnt seem to bad at all.

For the full rebuild of the motor, many shops will charge about $2500 or so, and then you figure another $1000 or so to remove the and replace the engine, and then $2500 for the APS install. I mean..you are really close...IMHO....especially depending on what other parts were included in this job. There is a ton of little stuff that can add up to $1000.

Not only that, but personally, I would pay a little EXTRA if I knew this shop was top notch. If is was an average or no-name shop, then yeah, the price could probably stand to be a bit lower. In this business, you usually get what you pay for.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the opinion Sharrif but we could both agree under the circumstances that your opinion may be a little biased.
